Is it good to do salpingography?

Is it good to do salpingography?

Hysterosalpingography uses a form of real-time x-ray called fluoroscopy to examine the uterus and fallopian tubes in women who are having trouble getting pregnant. It is also used to investigate miscarriage due to uterine abnormalities and to determine the presence and severity of tumor masses, adhesions, and uterine fibroids. Hysterosalpingography can sometimes open blocked fallopian tubes and allow a patient to become pregnant later. You should not have this procedure if you have active inflammation, and should tell your doctor or technician if you have chronic pelvic inflammatory disease or an untreated STD. However, some people may have questions: Is it good to do hysterosalpingography?

A large proportion of women cannot conceive because of problems with the fallopian tubes. About 40% of infertility is related to abnormalities in the structure and function of the fallopian tubes. Therefore, fallopian tube examination is an important part in the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. What are the methods to check whether the fallopian tubes are unobstructed? Next, I will introduce them to you one by one.

Fallopian tube hydrops examination

Generally not recommended

Although the hydrotubation test is simple and inexpensive, the diagnosis mainly relies on the subjective feeling of the doctor. The doctor can only judge whether the fallopian tube is unobstructed based on the fluid reflux and resistance, so the accuracy is definitely compromised.

For patients with infertility for many years, a history of surgery, and especially those with endometriosis, it is not recommended to use hydrotubation to diagnose the patency of the fallopian tubes. It should only be considered when there are no better means of examination.

We would like to remind everyone that if you already know that the fallopian tubes are blocked, do not repeatedly perform "fallopian tube hydrotubation" to "unblock them". This treatment method does not have a good effect.

Hysterosalpingography

Usually you can do

This is the most commonly used test, and many people have heard of it or done it. During the examination, contrast medium is first injected into the uterine cavity, and then an X-ray is taken to understand the condition of the uterus and fallopian tubes.

Hysterosalpingography is simple and quick to perform, has a high diagnostic accuracy rate, and has few side effects, with almost no impact on the patient's body. As long as there are no special circumstances such as allergy to contrast agents, it can generally be done.

The X-rays taken during the examination are easy to preserve and are a universal type of image data that can be used as a basis no matter which hospital you go to for examination and treatment. It is recommended to keep the film properly or save the electronic version so that you can easily show it to your doctor later.

Laparoscopic fallopian tube dyeing and fluid perfusion

Gold standard, but subject to conditions

This examination is also called "laparoscopic methylene blue perfusion". It can dynamically observe the patency of the fallopian tubes, and at the same time, it can fully and accurately understand the conditions of various organs in the pelvic cavity. It is recognized as the "gold standard" for examining the patency of the fallopian tubes.

Laparoscopy can also detect early endometriosis, pelvic tuberculosis and other diseases, and find the cause of some patients with unexplained infertility; and for patients with fallopian tube adhesions and water accumulation, corresponding surgical treatment can be performed under direct vision. Therefore, laparoscopy can be used for both diagnosis and treatment.

Laparoscopy is an invasive examination. Although it causes little trauma, it is still not recommended to do it just to understand the patency of the fallopian tubes. You should ask your doctor for judgment and make a choice based on the condition.

In addition to the three types introduced above, some hospitals can now perform ultrasound angiography to examine the condition of the fallopian tubes. Similar to X-ray angiography, ultrasound contrast agent must be injected first and then observed through an ultrasound machine. However, not all hospitals can perform this examination, so I will not introduce it in detail here.

The quality of the fallopian tubes is directly related to whether you can conceive. I hope everyone will cooperate with the doctor, do a good check-up, and find the cause so that you can get pregnant as you wish.
