What is breast pain?

Many people do not feel pain in the middle of the breast, but often feel pain on one side of the breast. This is a common pathological phenomenon in puberty. It is normal to have breast pain during puberty, which usually occurs between the ages of 9 and 13. If you have passed this stage and have obvious pain on one side of the breast, it cannot be ruled out that it may be related to inflammatory bacterial infection and needs to be checked and treated as soon as possible.

There are six main reasons for breast tenderness .

1. Breast pain during adolescence: The earliest breast pain in girls usually occurs when they are 9-13 years old. At this time, girls' breasts begin to develop and they will have a slight feeling of pain. After menarche, the swelling and pain will disappear on its own as the breasts mature.

2. Premenstrual breast pain: Many women experience breast fullness, hardness, and tenderness before menstruation. In severe cases, the breasts can become swollen and painful even with slight vibrations or collisions. This is caused by increased estrogen levels in the body before menstruation, breast hyperplasia, and tissue edema. The above changes may disappear after menstruation.

3. Breast pain during lactation: Some women experience breast pain when they are about 40 days pregnant due to the large amount of estrogen, progesterone and prolactin secreted by the placenta and villi, which causes the mammary glands to enlarge and the pain can occur. In severe cases, the pain can last throughout the pregnancy.

4. Postpartum breast pain: Breast swelling, induration and pain often occur 3-7 days after delivery. This is mainly due to breast lymph retention, venous congestion, interstitial edema and obstructed mammary ducts.

5. Breast pain after artificial abortion: After artificial abortion, some women complain of breast pain and can feel a lump. This is because the pregnancy is suddenly interrupted, and the hormone level in the body drops suddenly, causing the changes in the breasts to suddenly stop, resulting in breast lumps and breast pain. 6. Breast pain after sexual intercourse: This is related to the physiological changes in the breasts during sexual intercourse. People with low libido or disharmonious sex life cannot achieve sexual satisfaction, so breast congestion and swelling are not easy to subside, or they subside incompletely. Continuous congestion will cause breast pain.
