What is the cause of a round lump on the breast during lactation?

It is critical for women to take care of their breasts during lactation. The breasts will continue to secrete milk to meet the normal needs of the baby. Many women will find a round lump on their breasts during lactation. This is a common phenomenon. This may be a symptom caused by milk accumulation. Since milk secretion is not smooth during lactation, it is easy to cause lumps on the breasts. Hot compresses can be used to relieve the symptoms.

What causes breast lumps during lactation?

Lumps caused by milk stasis should be considered. The causes of milk stasis include: nipple hypoplasia (too small or inverted) interfering with breastfeeding; too much milk or the baby sucking too little milk, resulting in the milk not being completely emptied; milk duct blockage affecting milk discharge. You can use hot water for hot compresses and local massage. After breastfeeding your baby, you can use a breast pump to help you express milk and try to express as much milk as possible. If the lump does not subside, or if you have fever or unbearable pain, you need to go to the hospital for treatment.

pathology

The etiology and pathology are clinically common breast structural abnormalities, inflammation, and tumor compression. When the mammary lobe or lobule duct epithelium falls off or other substances block the duct, milk cannot be discharged smoothly and stagnates in the duct, causing the duct to expand and form cysts. The cysts can be secondarily infected and lead to acute mastitis or breast abscesses. If there is no secondary infection, it can exist for a long time. The contents of the cysts become thicker, and over time, the water in the cysts can be absorbed, causing the cysts to harden. The cyst wall is composed of a thin layer of fibrous tissue, lined with a very thin epithelial cell layer on the inside, which even falls off in some places. The cyst contains light red amorphous structural material and foamy cells that swallow milk. A large number of monocytes, epithelial-like cells, multinuclear giant cells, lymphocytes and plasma cells infiltrating in the interstitium around the cyst can be seen. Small duct dilatation and lactating gland lobule tissue can also be seen.

This disease is a benign breast lesion. Once discovered, surgical resection should be considered. The surgery only requires simple resection of the tumor. If it occurs during lactation and there is a secondary infection, the infection should be controlled and the milk should be drained, and then the tumor should be removed and sent for pathological examination.

treat

The number of patients with insufficient milk after childbirth in outpatient clinics has gradually increased in recent years. A considerable number of these patients do not have true insufficient milk, but rather have blocked milk ducts and poor milk discharge. Traditional Chinese medicine milk discharge treatment can gradually increase the amount of milk in patients and achieve the purpose of breastfeeding.

Milk stasis, acute mastitis and postpartum milk deficiency are common diseases among lactating women. Milk stasis is an important cause and one of the early clinical manifestations of acute mastitis. The principle of modern medicine for the treatment of acute mastitis is to use antibiotics in the early stage and perform incision and drainage after pus is formed.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that postpartum milk stasis is the direct cause of mastitis, and proposes the treatment principle of manual milk discharge. It can clear milk stasis and blockage of nipple pores, promote the discharge of pus, and create an environment without breeding ground for bacteria while enhancing local blood circulation, thus relieving inflammation and pain, and exerting a dual therapeutic effect.
