What causes high blood pressure after childbirth?

Some women originally had completely normal blood pressure, but they were found to have high blood pressure after giving birth. At this time, it is important to pay attention, because postpartum hypertension is very harmful. For example, it can cause damage to women’s heart, brain, kidneys and other very important organs and tissues. Therefore, if high blood pressure occurs after childbirth, it must be adjusted in time through various methods. So what are the causes of postpartum hypertension?

What causes high blood pressure after childbirth?

Reason 1

Essential hypertension. Some patients have predisposing factors to hypertension, which are stimulated during pregnancy and develop into preeclampsia, which then becomes primary hypertension after delivery. Pregnancy is a precipitating factor. For example, among women who suffer from gestational hypertension during their childbearing period, 50% to 70% will develop hypertension when they reach middle age or old age.

Reason 2

Renal hypertension. The patient has kidney disease, such as nephritis or chronic pyelonephritis. The disease was not discovered before pregnancy, or it was not noticed because of mild condition, but it was stimulated and manifested after pregnancy, resulting in preeclampsia. Although the pregnancy was terminated, the original renal hypertension worsened and the postpartum hypertension could not be reduced to normal.

Reason 3

Nervous system-induced hypertension. Postpartum hypertension can be caused by factors such as postpartum mental stress, crying children, fatigue, lack of sleep, family disputes, and unhappiness during the confinement period.

Reason 4

Caused by the use of pressor drugs during labor. Postpartum hypertension may be caused by heavy bleeding during delivery and low blood pressure, and the doctor may have used pressor drugs, which increased the sensitivity of blood vessels to these drugs and other factors.

Hypertension refers to an increase in resting systolic and/or diastolic blood pressure (>=140/90 mmHg), often accompanied by fat and sugar metabolism disorders and functional or organic changes in organs such as the heart, brain, kidneys and retina. It is a systemic disease characterized by organ remodeling. If the blood pressure is >= 140/90 mmHg when measured more than 2 times on different days after resting for more than 5 minutes, it can be diagnosed as hypertension. Once diagnosed with hypertension, you must take antihypertensive drugs for life to avoid the occurrence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Usually, you take amlodipine, nitrendipine, captopril, etc. At the same time, closely monitor changes in blood pressure. At the same time, you can take some drugs that soften blood vessels, such as troxerutin, vitamin E, compound danshen tablets, etc., which can help lower systolic blood pressure. You can take some long-acting antihypertensive drugs, which have a better blood pressure lowering effect. Once a day is enough.
