What should I do if my breasts become swollen and painful due to weaning?

Weaning is a measure taken by mothers when the quality of breast milk cannot meet the needs of the baby. Weaning will make the milk disappear and restore the breasts to the state before delivery. It is a very important process for women, but weaning is not so easy. Improper weaning may cause breast disease problems and cause certain harm to the female body. For example, what should I do if my breasts are swollen and painful during weaning?

Breast engorgement during weaning is caused by excessive milk secretion and inability to completely suck out the milk, which leads to milk accumulation in the mammary ducts, causing the breasts to become swollen and painful. It is normal to experience breast tenderness during weaning, but mothers must pay attention to preventing mastitis caused by improper weaning.

When breast milk swells during weaning, mothers should not use some quick-acting methods to reduce the swell, otherwise it will affect the body. If the breast engorgement is not too uncomfortable, it is recommended to endure it for about a week. After that, the symptoms of breast engorgement will gradually ease and then disappear.

When your milk is swollen, you should never let your baby suck milk or express your own milk for the sake of temporary comfort, as this will only prolong the weaning period. If your breasts are swollen and you feel uncomfortable, you can apply ice, but the temperature should not be too low. Slightly frozen water will be enough.

You can also massage your breasts to shorten the weaning period, such as gently massaging from the base of the breast to the nipple; at the same time, reduce the intake of soup and some foods that promote milk secretion, such as: crucian carp soup, broth, pig's trotters, peanuts, etc. Also pay attention to reducing water intake appropriately. However, you cannot use extreme methods to try to "hold back" the milk, such as sealing the nipples with tape, tightening the chest with a towel, etc. This will not only fail to relieve the bloating and pain, but will make the pain worse.

If these methods don't work, you need to take some milk-suppressing medicine orally under the guidance of a doctor to relieve the pain.

Recommended tips:

Malt water: Boil roasted malt water and drink it as tea every day. Raw malt is generally used for milk stasis, but it is not very effective in weaning.

Vitamin B6: Take vitamin B6 three times a day, 200 mg each time for the first two days and 100 mg on the third day. This method cannot be used by yourself and must be performed under the guidance of a doctor.

Wheat bran: Fry the wheat bran until it turns yellow, then add brown sugar, stir well and continue frying. Take it twice a day for 7 days.
