Is it serious if the uterine fibroids are too large?

Nowadays, many women over 30 years old have more or less gynecological diseases, some have ovarian cysts, and some have uterine fibroids. Uterine fibroids are common benign tumors, and many people do not pay attention to the condition because it will not cause too much impact on the body. However, if you are told during the follow-up process that the uterine fibroids have become larger, it depends on the large range. If it exceeds about five centimeters, surgery must be performed, but if it is less than five centimeters, you can consider combined drug treatment, and the condition will not be too serious.

How big are uterine fibroids?

Generally speaking, fibroids larger than 5.0 cm are considered serious and require prompt surgical removal. However, the specific treatment plan needs to be determined based on individual age, clinical manifestations and endocrine conditions. In general, if the fibroid is larger than 3 cm and has a rich blood supply, surgery should be performed as soon as possible.

In addition, if you meet the following six physiological indicators, it also indicates that your uterine fibroid symptoms are more serious and require surgery.

1. Symptomatic uterine fibroids:

(1) Due to uterine fibroids, patients may suffer from heavy menstrual flow, long menstrual periods, and long-term excessive menstrual blood loss, which may lead to secondary anemia and even anemic heart disease. In severe cases, patients may experience symptoms such as general fatigue, pale complexion, shortness of breath, and palpitations. It is more common in submucosal uterine fibroids and intramural uterine fibroids. In this case, it cannot be delayed arbitrarily. It is recommended that surgery be performed at the right time, which is an effective treatment method. Otherwise, it may be life-threatening. There was a patient with uterine fibroids in a remote mountainous area. Due to multiple uterine fibroids, she had heavy and long-term menstrual flow, increasingly severe anemia, fatigue, shortness of breath, and palpitations. She could no longer work and came to the hospital for treatment. The patient looked severely anemic, with a hemoglobin of only 40g/L. She was advised to be hospitalized, but she went home on her own. She fainted while going to the toilet at home and died. ;

(2) Myoma compresses pelvic organs and causes corresponding symptoms: such as compression of the bladder causing urgency, frequency, or even difficulty urinating; compression of the rectum causing rectal irritation symptoms or even difficulty defecation; low-lying myoma or cervical myoma or broad ligament myoma compresses the ureter and causes hydrops in the ureter and renal pelvis. People who experience symptoms of pelvic organ compression do not necessarily also have heavy menstrual flow or prolonged menstruation.

Generally speaking, surgical treatment should be considered once cervical fibroids, broad ligament fibroids, and submucosal fibroids are discovered.

2. Suspected malignant transformation of fibroids:

The chance of uterine fibroids becoming malignant is very small, generally less than 1%. It is more common in older people with large and fast-growing fibroids, especially when fibroids grow rapidly after menopause or reappear after menopause, you should be more vigilant. Therefore, although most uterine fibroids shrink after menopause, they should not be taken lightly and should still be checked regularly.
