What is the reason for a small gestational sac?

During the prenatal checkup, many pregnant women often find a gestational sac, fetal bud, and fetal heart rate on the checkup report. Many people do not know how to judge these. Especially when many checkup reports show that the gestational sac is small or poorly developed, the main consideration is some changes in the embryo during the development process. After understanding these pregnancy knowledge, you can make a correct judgment.

1. Causes and solutions for large gestational sac and small fetal bud

The development of the embryo is: generally, during a B-ultrasound examination around 60 days of pregnancy, it can be seen whether the gestational sac, fetal bud, and fetal heart rate are normal. Common causes of abnormal embryonic development include genetics, infection, immunity, exposure to radioactive substances or toxic chemicals, drugs that are contraindicated for pregnant women, high temperature, excessive stimulation, etc. The embryo itself has defects or is affected by adverse factors during the development process and stops developing.

The small size of the embryo may be due to the late implantation of the sperm, and the egg survives in the body for about two or three days, which means that the pregnant mother conceives a few days after ovulation, rather than on the day of ovulation. Therefore, the embryo bud will develop a few days later and be smaller. As long as there is fetal heartbeat and the embryonic bud is visible, the fetus is normal.

Solution:

If the test results show that there is no embryo bud, then it is necessary to consider that the embryo has stopped developing and the pregnancy needs to be terminated in time. The doctor will develop a specific plan based on the test results.

Because the gestational sac is not a perfect circle, there will be a certain error depending on personal measurement habits. The fetus is basically formed at 12-14 weeks of pregnancy, the fetus's limbs can be distinguished and the fetal biparietal diameter can be measured. It is recommended to do an ultrasound examination at that time.

It is abnormal that no embryo or fetal heartbeat is seen after two months of pregnancy. It is likely caused by embryonic arrest. If the menstrual cycle is regular and the cycle is about 30 days, it is abnormal if there is no fetal bud or fetal heartbeat in the second month of pregnancy. The pregnancy needs to be terminated directly and there is no need to continue observation.
