What is the correct way to wash your baby’s face with breast milk?

Some new mothers have plenty of milk and like to use the excess milk to wash their baby's face. Breast milk has a relatively high nutritional value, but we also need to understand that a baby's skin is particularly delicate and it is easy for it to breed bacteria and cause deterioration, which will cause certain damage to the baby's skin. Therefore, it is best not to use breast milk to wash the baby's face. Using clean water is the best method.

Disadvantages of washing your baby's face with breast milk

1. If you rub breast milk on your baby's face, it will easily cause bacteria to grow, damage the baby's skin surface protective layer, and easily clog the baby's pores, affecting sweat excretion, thereby causing secondary folliculitis, causing suppurative infection of the skin around the facial hair follicles, scabs, and leaving scars.

2. After applying breast milk on the baby's face, it will form a thin film on the baby's skin after it dries. This film will restrict the movement of the baby's facial muscles, making the baby feel very uncomfortable and crying.

3. Because breast milk contains various proteins, and the skin does not contain digestive enzymes like our gastrointestinal tract, which has the function of decomposing protein allergens. Therefore, it is likely to cause allergies when used on baby's delicate skin. Many mothers mistakenly believe that applying breast milk to their baby’s eczema will relieve it, but in fact it will only make the condition worse.

The correct way to wash your newborn's face

1. Eye cleaning and care

If the secretions in the baby's eyes are not cleaned in time, it is easy to cause infection. If you find that your baby has eye dirt, you can gently apply a warm towel to the area of the eye dirt and remove it after a few minutes. Usually, a wet towel can remove the eye dirt. You can also gently massage the bridge of your baby's nose under the inner corner of the eye to help promote patency of the nasolacrimal duct.

2. Cleaning and care of earwax

Generally speaking, earwax will not cause harm to the baby, but can protect the baby's ear canal, so parents do not need to take any special measures. Normally, mothers only need to use cotton swabs to help clean the baby's external auditory canal, but never go deep.

If the earwax is clumped together, you need to soften it with special ear drops or go to the hospital directly.

3. Cleaning and care of the nose

Parents do not need to clean their baby's nasal cavity frequently, otherwise it will easily damage the nasal mucosa. If you find that your baby has excessive nasal secretions, you can use a cotton swab dipped in olive oil to care for him/her, which can not only clean the nasal cavity but also protect the nasal mucosa.
