Does calcified breast nodules mean breast cancer?

Does calcified breast nodules mean breast cancer?

Breast nodules are a typical chronic disease. Patients with this disease worry that it may endanger their lives. Some people say that calcification of breast nodules is a sign of breast cancer. In fact, this cannot be completely confirmed. Calcification of breast nodules should be diagnosed after scientific examination in the hospital. Not all calcification of breast nodules are breast cancer, and people should understand this.

1. Breast cancer screening methods

There is a better way to check for breast cancer, called breast mammography. Mammography is different from color Doppler ultrasound. Color Doppler ultrasound is mainly used to observe whether there are lumps on the breast, while mammography is used to observe whether there is calcification. Calcification is a term for a variety of breast diseases and is itself a neutral term. Many patients misunderstand that calcification is dangerous. In fact, this is not true. Some breast cancers can also show as calcification, some breast cysts can also show as calcification, and some milk deposits can also show as calcification.

2. Calcification of breast nodules

Calcification actually means that the muscle tissue or breast tissue in the human body is no longer as hard as before, but suddenly becomes hard like a stone. Breast calcification can have many causes, but it is not necessarily a sign of breast cancer. There are many places where calcification is likely to occur, such as the kidneys and liver. It only means that tissues in certain places have lost their activity, and it is not necessarily cancer. If any female friend finds that her breast has calcification, we still recommend regular check-ups and a mammography examination once a year, which will be safer.

Doctors need to distinguish among these calcification points which ones are important and which ones are not. The severity of the condition and whether surgery or biopsy is required can be determined based on the shape of the calcification on the film. Generally speaking, scattered, granular, and coarse calcifications are safe. If it is a dense, silty pile of calcification, it is dangerous. So the different forms of calcification determine our treatment methods.
