What to do if pregnant women have nasal polyps

Due to some inflammatory stimulation, some dark red, light red or elastic tumors often form in the nasal cavity, sometimes accompanied by bleeding. These tumors are called polyps. The main symptoms include nasal congestion, decreased sense of smell, etc. The following introduces the treatment methods for nasal polyps in pregnant women.

The treatment of nasal polyps is a very critical step, especially for polyps that grow faster, which need special attention. Here I will introduce to you the treatments for nasal polyps.

First, microwave treatment: using microwave surgical treatment machine. This treatment method is more advanced than the previous two, but because it only removes the surface, it cannot achieve a complete cure and is also prone to recurrence.

Second, surgical treatment: General traditional surgical treatment, for stubborn diseases like nasal polyps, is generally only a temporary solution and not a cure for the disease. It is difficult to cure it once and for all and it is easy to relapse. While increasing the pain for the patients, it also brings great mental stress and heavy financial burden to the patients.

Third, nasal endoscope: It is a fiber optic device with its own light source, which can perform detailed examination of the nasal cavity. It has angles ranging from 0 to 90 degrees. Due to good lighting and its relatively thin diameter of only 2.7-4.0mm, the nasal endoscope can easily pass through the narrow nasal cavity and nasal passages to examine the internal structures of the nasal cavity, nasopharynx and even the sinuses. It is an important means of diagnosing nasal polyps.

Pregnant women with nasal polyps cannot take systemic medications and are not suitable for surgery due to pregnancy considerations. They can only use local anti-inflammatory drugs to relieve the symptoms. Nasal polyps are a common chronic disease of the nasal and sinus mucosa, with the clinical feature being extremely edematous nasal mucosa forming single or multiple polyps in the middle nasal meatus. Topical use of fluticasone nasal spray may provide some relief.
