What to do if one breast is bigger than the other during breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding helps the baby's digestion and is of great help to the baby's health. At the same time, breastfeeding can also improve the child's resistance. However, since many new mothers have incorrect feeding postures for their babies, their breasts may be of different sizes. So what should I do if one breast is larger than the other when feeding?

1. It is estimated that there are some lumps on the larger side. Let the baby suck the larger side first. Before sucking, cover the entire breast with a hot towel and apply heat compress for 5 minutes. If it is too hard and swollen, the baby may not be able to hold the nipple. At this time, you can squeeze out some front milk. When the area around the nipple is a little softer, it will be easier for the baby to hold and suck.

2. When the baby eats on one side, it stimulates the entire mammary gland, so the prolactin in the mother's body will also stimulate the other breast to secrete milk quickly. Therefore, if the mammary gland on the other side is very unobstructed, milk may flow out (which is what the old people call milk leakage). Sometimes you may feel a tingling sensation in your breasts during lactation, this is normal. The smaller side should also eat more to stimulate the secretion of more milk. After a few days, the two sides will be basically restored to the same level. Usually, make sure your baby takes turns feeding from both sides to ensure uniform lactation and a symmetrical size of the breasts in the future.

3. Adopting the correct breastfeeding posture is beneficial to both mother and baby. It not only ensures that both mother and baby feel comfortable, but also helps mother avoid nipple pain, and allows milk to flow smoothly, making the baby's sucking more effective.

If the breastfeeding posture is improper, for example, if the baby is held horizontally for feeding, or is lying flat on the back for feeding, or the mouth of the bottle is too wide or too vertical, etc., the milk can easily flow along the Eustachian tube into the middle ear and induce otitis media. In addition, if the intervals between feedings are too long, the child's hunger will increase, the sucking will be too intense, and the child will inhale too much air, which can easily lead to milk regurgitation. It is also easy for milk sweat to flow into the middle ear and cause otitis media.
