What is the purpose of ovarian tumor marker testing?

What is the purpose of ovarian tumor marker testing?

The ovarian tumor marker test is actually a method to detect and understand whether women are affected by some ovarian cyst disease problems. Because many ovarian diseases now threaten women's lives and health, they need to be prevented.

1. First, let’s understand: What are the five ovarian tumor markers?

The first of the five markers for ovarian tumors is called serum CA125. The second is called alpha-fetoprotein AFP. The third one is called ferritin SF. The fourth type is called CA199. The last one is called carcinoembryonic antigen CEA. Through the combined detection of these five types, the ovarian tumors of general patients can be examined very clearly.

2. The first ovarian tumor marker, serum CA125, is the most common malignant ovarian tumor marker in the current research field in my country. However, there may be certain differences in the single serum CA125 test. Therefore, joint inspections are usually carried out. The concentration of CA199 in serum will be significantly increased in patients with gastrointestinal tumors. There will be significant differences in the results of its detection and combined examinations. AFP has a certain degree of diagnostic value for immature teratomas in the ovaries. CEA is a structural antigen on the surface of tumor cells. The last type of SF ferritin is a relatively high level of blood protein in patients with malignant ovarian tumors. However, there are still big differences compared with the joint detection results.

3. So in a word, in today's medical era, early detection of tumor properties requires simultaneous testing of these five markers and final analysis of the conclusions for a confirmed diagnosis.

In summary, there are many reasons for the high levels of ovarian tumor markers, which indirectly indicates that there is a possibility of transformation into a malignant tumor. At this time, our patients who are suspected of having the disease should still go to a professional and regular cancer hospital for a comprehensive and detailed examination to avoid delaying their treatment and regretting it.
