What does cervical columnar epithelium ectopia mean?

Many people do not understand what cervical columnar epithelium ectopia is. In fact, this is what we usually call cervical erosion. Usually when facing this phenomenon, women need to pay attention to the correct treatment, especially for severe cervical erosion problems.

1. Cervical columnar epithelium ectopia is a synonym for cervical erosion. The term "cervical erosion" has long been abandoned internationally and renamed: cervical columnar epithelium ectopia. Due to the low resistance of the columnar epithelium of the cervical canal, pathogens can easily invade and cause inflammation. Cervical erosion is a common and frequently occurring disease among women. Especially for married women who have given birth, almost 60% to 80% have cervical erosion to varying degrees.

2. If severe cervical erosion is not treated, a small number of cases may develop cervical precancerous lesions or cervical cancer. Therefore, in addition to regular gynecological examinations, women with more severe cervical erosion should receive prompt and thorough treatment. The treatment of cervical erosion depends on the condition of the disease. First of all, we need to look at the extent and nature of the erosion. Cervical erosion is divided into three degrees: mild, moderate and severe according to the depth of the lesion. If it is mild and superficial erosion, even if the erosion surface is large, if the erosion is shallow and there is not much leucorrhea, it can be temporarily left untreated.

3. If the papillary erosion is moderate or above, cancer prevention examination and treatment must be done, and surgical treatment is generally recommended. Currently, there are many kinds of drugs for the local treatment of cervical erosion, but local medications can only work on the surface of the erosion. In the short term, the surface seems to heal, but because the basic lesions are not resolved, it will soon relapse. As for vulvar and vaginal douching, it can only improve the symptoms of leucorrhea, but cannot play a fundamental role in the healing of erosion. At the same time, unnecessary vaginal douching or medication will disrupt the normal defense mechanism of the vagina and may cause infection.
