Treatment of mastitis, treatment of mastitis during lactation

Many women develop mastitis during breastfeeding, especially those who are pregnant for the first time. Mastitis can cause fever symptoms. At this time, they need to stop breastfeeding, get more rest, and apply hot compresses. The most important thing is to maintain a good attitude during breastfeeding.

1. Pay attention to cleaning

Pay attention to rest in the early stage, stop breastfeeding, clean the nipples and areola, and promote milk discharge (using a breast pump or sucking). Those who need incision and drainage should stop breastfeeding. This is the first prerequisite for treating mastitis.

2. Use milk-reducing drugs

Stop breastfeeding on the affected side and use a breast pump to express the milk. Appropriate lactation drugs can be used, such as oral administration of 1 mg of ethinyl estradiol 3 times a day, or 2.5 mg of bromocriptine 3 times a day.

3. Systemic antibiotics

To prevent and treat severe infection and sepsis, antibiotics are selected based on bacterial culture and drug sensitivity, and intravenous antibiotics are given when necessary.

4. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment

Heat-clearing and detoxifying agents are used to treat early mastitis. The main symptoms in the initial stage are milk stasis and internal accumulation of heat and toxicity. The treatment principles are detoxification, heat-clearing, lactation and swelling reduction.

Oral medication: You can take Trichosanthes and Burdock Soup (9g each of cooked burdock, raw gardenia, honeysuckle, forsythia, 12g each of whole kudzu vine (crushed) and dandelion, 4.5g each of tangerine peel and tangerine leaves, 6g of bupleurum, and 9g of Scutellaria. Decoction in water, one dose per day). For swelling and pain, add frankincense, myrrh, and red peony root.

5. Heat

Apply local hot compress, or wash 60 grams each of fresh dandelion and honeysuckle leaves, add a little vinegar or wine, and mash them for external application. Support your breasts with wide bands or a bra.

6. Closure

60-80 ml of 0.25% procaine for breast sealing can reduce inflammation. Choose broad-spectrum antibiotics orally or intravenously. One million units of penicillin can be dissolved in 20 ml of normal saline and injected around the inflammatory mass.

7. Drainage of pus

If an abscess has formed, it should be incised and drained. The incision should be radial to the nipple, avoiding the areola. For retromammary abscess or deep abscess under the breast, an arc-shaped incision can be made at the sternotomy fold under the breast.

Combining the seven methods of treating mastitis, patients should maintain a good attitude and take a two-pronged approach, and the treatment effect will be better.
