Polycystic enlargement of both ovaries is very harmful and needs timely treatment

Bilateral polycystic ovary syndrome is very harmful to women. What are the symptoms of polycystic ovaries?

Bilateral polycystic ovary is a syndrome caused by menstrual disorders. Patients with this syndrome have oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea, infertility, hirsutism and obesity, and bilateral ovarian cystic enlargement. Therefore, bilateral polycystic enlargement of the ovaries is a symptom of bilateral polycystic changes in the ovaries.

1. Menstrual abnormalities: oligomenorrhea, amenorrhea, and in a few cases, functional uterine bleeding. It often occurs during adolescence, as a continuation of irregular menstruation after menarche, sometimes accompanied by dysmenorrhea.

2. Hirsutism is more common: the incidence rate can reach 69%. Due to the increase in androgen, the vellus hair on the upper lip, lower jaw, chest, back, middle of the lower abdomen, both sides of the upper thighs and around the anus may become thicker and more numerous, but the degree of hirsutism is not proportional to the androgen level. It may also be accompanied by signs of masculinization such as acne, excessive facial sebum secretion, low and hoarse voice, enlarged clitoris, and the appearance of Adam's apple.

3. Infertility: Due to long-term anovulation, patients often suffer from infertility, and sometimes there may be occasional ovulation or miscarriage, with an incidence rate of up to 74%.

4. Obesity: Overweight exceeds 20%, and those with a body mass index ≥ 25 account for 30% to 60%. Obesity is mostly concentrated in the upper body, with a waist/hip ratio > 0.85. It usually starts during adolescence and gradually worsens with age.

5. Enlarged ovaries: A small number of patients may feel enlarged and firm ovaries through general gynecological examination, but most patients require auxiliary examinations to confirm.

6. Estrogen effect: All patients showed good estrogen effect. During examination, a large amount of cervical mucus may be seen. Continuous and large amounts of estrogen can cause rapid endometrial hyperplasia, atypical hyperplasia, and even cancer.

The harm of polycystic ovary changes cannot be ignored

Currently, polycystic ovary changes have become the second most common cause of infertility after fallopian tube obstruction, accounting for about 30% of women. This is because polycystic ovary changes cause women to experience persistent anovulation symptoms. At the same time, polycystic ovarian changes can also lead to an 8-fold higher incidence of hypertension than normal women, a 6-fold increase in the incidence of diabetes, a 2-fold higher incidence of endometrial cancer and breast cancer, and higher rates of ischemic heart disease and myocardial infarction than the control group. Therefore, infertility experts recommend that female patients and female friends must pay attention to the examination of polycystic ovarian changes and detect and treat them early.
