What are cervical cysts and uterine cysts?

Nowadays, many female friends have some gynecological diseases to a greater or lesser extent. I wonder if you have a certain understanding of cervical cysts and uterine cysts. In fact, this disease has a relatively large impact on female friends. However, many female friends now do not seek timely treatment when they find that they have mild gynecological diseases. This is very wrong. So what are the cervical cysts and uterine cysts?

Cervical diseases are very common, especially among married women with children. Cervical cysts are very common diseases. I believe everyone has heard of them. They are chronic cervicitis. We should learn more about cervical cysts and get them checked and treated in time.

Cervical cyst is a pathological manifestation of chronic cervicitis. The reason for its formation is similar to that of "acne" on the face. During the healing process of cervical erosion, the newly formed squamous epithelium covers the opening of the cervical gland duct or extends into the gland duct, blocking the opening of the gland duct. The hyperplasia of connective tissue or scar formation around the glandular duct compresses the glandular duct, causing it to narrow or even block it. The drainage of glandular secretions is obstructed and retained, forming a cyst called a cervical nabothian cyst. The cysts vary in size, but are generally small and scattered. It can appear alone or in multiples.

In chronic cervicitis, the cervical glands and surrounding tissues proliferate. When the gland duct is squeezed by the surrounding tissue and the gland opening is blocked, the secretions in the gland cannot flow out and are retained inside, causing the gland cavity to expand and form cystic tumors of varying sizes, called "cervical gland retention cysts", also known as Nabot cysts. The mucus it contains is often clear but may be turbid and purulent due to concurrent infection. The cysts are usually small and scattered and may protrude from the surface of the cervix. The small ones are only the size of millet grains, and the large ones can be as big as corn kernels. They are bluish white in color and may be accompanied by erosion, but they are also common in cervix with smooth surface. Due to the long-term stimulation of chronic inflammation, the cervical tissue repeatedly becomes congested and edematous, inflammatory cells infiltrate and connective tissue proliferates, causing cervical hypertrophy. In severe cases, the cervix can increase by more than 1 times compared to a normal cervix. Severe inflammation can lead to menstrual abnormalities or even infertility.

It can occur in any part of the cervix. During gynecological examination, the speculum can only detect cysts located at the external os of the cervix, while B-ultrasound can display cysts in various parts of the cervix with a cyst detection rate of up to 100%. Therefore, B-ultrasound examination improves the clinical diagnosis rate and also provides convenience for clinical treatment.

With the development of ultrasonic diagnostic technology, the detection rate of cervical cysts has increased significantly. This article shows that the detection rate of cervical cysts gradually increases with age, especially in people over 50 years old, the incidence rate increases significantly. Cervical cyst is a common disease in gynecological ultrasound diagnosis.

Cervical cyst is not a disease

Cyst is a benign disease that can grow on the surface of the human body or in the internal organs. A cyst is a benign sac-like mass that grows in an organ in the body and its contents are liquid. So is cervical cyst a disease?

Experts believe that cervical cysts are formed during the healing process of cervical erosion. The term cervical erosion has been used for many years, but it is an incorrect term. It has long been abolished in foreign countries, and this term has been abandoned in new domestic textbooks and replaced by "outward migration of cervical columnar epithelium." The reason for this is that it is mostly due to high estrogen levels, which disappears as we age. This is actually a physiological phenomenon, not a real disease. Cervical cyst is also a product of the healing process of cervical erosion, so it is not a disease.

So why has this normal physiological phenomenon been considered a disease for a long time and been given such a scary name? This is because the cervical columnar epithelial cells migrate outward, making the cervix look like erosion. There are two types of epithelial cells on the cervix - squamous epithelial cells and columnar epithelial cells. Columnar epithelial cells are simple epithelial cells located inside the endocervical canal, while squamous epithelial cells are stratified epithelial cells located outside the endocervical canal. The two epithelial cells are different in appearance. When the estrogen level is too high, the columnar epithelial cells grow outward under the stimulation of hormones and grow outside the cervical canal. The cervical cyst heals and forms a "pimple" like the one on the face.

The above is an introduction to what cervical cysts and uterine cysts are. If there are female friends in your life who suffer from this type of disease, don’t worry too much. In fact, this disease is not that scary. If we actively and promptly treat it, it can be cured. I would like to remind friends that when they find that they have gynecological diseases, they must seek timely treatment to avoid causing some harm.
