What should I do if I have a high fever during confinement?

Many female friends will experience fever during the confinement period, and some will even have a high fever that will not go away. There are many reasons for this. Some may be caused by physical diseases, and some may be breast problems. Different treatments are required for different situations. Blind treatment will only aggravate the condition. So what should we do if the high fever does not subside during confinement? Let’s learn about this issue together.

1. Generally, fever that occurs during the confinement period is mostly related to the breast or wounds on the body.

Those related to the breast are easier to check. Because most mothers need to breastfeed during this period, and if the nipple pores are not fully opened, eating nourishing foods may cause acute mastitis. Therefore, mothers at this time can massage the breasts with their hands. If local redness, swelling, lumps, and pain occur, stop eating all nourishing foods and only eat ordinary rice and vegetables. At the same time, ask experienced elderly people at home for help or find a lactation specialist in the hospital to open the nipple pores, squeeze out excess milk, and take a shower for physical cooling. Basically, the body temperature will return to normal in about a day.

2. The wounds are mainly located in the vulva, vagina, cervix, perineal incision or laceration suture sites. If inflammation occurs, it can be observed directly from the outside, such as local redness, swelling, heat and pain, wound cracking; abnormal secretions from the lower body, even with a fishy smell; blood tests show an increase in white blood cells. These can all prove that the wound is inflamed and the wound must be treated with anti-inflammatory treatment immediately.

3. Fever may also be related to physical illness, such as endometritis or myometritis, which often occurs 3-5 days after delivery. The lochia may be smelly or not. In mild cases, there may be low fever, increased lochia with a foul odor, abdominal distension, lower abdominal pain and tenderness. Severe cases are accompanied by fever, chills, lower abdominal tenderness or pain, and elevated white blood cell count. Although this is an inflammation caused in the later stage, it is related to the poor excretion of lochia. You can drink more brown sugar water just after giving birth, or add hawthorn to boil water for drinking; or use red beans to boil soup to drink; you can also use lotus root nodes to simmer hen soup, drink the soup and eat the meat.

4. Pelvic infection: symptoms such as chills, high fever, lower abdominal pain, and deep pelvic tenderness often appear about 5 days after delivery. It can cause pelvic abscess and even persistent high fever. Symptoms of pelvic peritonitis may include chills, high fever, severe abdominal pain, vomiting, abdominal distension, tense abdominal muscles, obvious tenderness and rebound pain, and may cause symptoms such as intestinal adhesions, diarrhea, tenesmus, and difficulty urinating. This is caused by inflammation of nearby organs. You should pay attention to hygiene in your daily life and seek medical attention in time if any problems occur.

From the above introduction, we can see that there are many situations that can cause persistent high fever during the confinement period. According to different symptoms, we should deal with them according to the above methods. If you cannot determine the cause of your fever, it is best not to use medication indiscriminately. It is recommended that you go to the hospital for a relevant examination to better understand the condition. Moreover, it is not recommended for women who have a fever while breastfeeding to continue breastfeeding their babies.
