How to feel out the cervical canal

When a pregnant woman is about to give birth, the cervical canal will gradually recede and the cervical opening will gradually open. When the cervical canal is completely closed and the cervical opening is completely opened, the baby is about to be born. Pregnant women should be prepared for giving birth at any time, so how can they feel the eclipse of the cervix?

Pregnant women usually cannot feel the erosion of the cervix themselves, so it is the doctors or midwives who determine the erosion of the cervix through prenatal vaginal examination. Therefore, it is difficult for pregnant women to determine whether they are about to give birth by whether the cervix is eroded.

Therefore, the best way for pregnant women to judge the time of delivery is to rely on the duration of pregnancy and the feeling of uterine contraction, which is more reliable. If obvious uterine contractions have already occurred and the pregnant woman feels pain when uterine contractions begin, she should go to the hospital immediately to check the eclipse of the cervix and the dilation of the cervix, and be prepared for delivery at any time.

In addition, there are some special situations where the pregnant woman does not have to wait until the cervix is completely eroded before giving birth, such as if there is a problem of premature rupture of amniotic fluid. As the amniotic fluid of the pregnant woman gradually decreases, it will become increasingly difficult for the fetus to breathe in the uterus. At this time, even if the cervix has not ebbed, the pregnant woman must deliver the baby immediately, otherwise the fetus will be at risk of stillbirth or mental retardation due to lack of oxygen. If the due date has been exceeded for more than two weeks and the cervix has not yet ebbed, the woman should give birth immediately.

What is cervical ripening?

Cervical ripening refers to the degree to which the cervix becomes loose, reduced, eroded, and enlarged before delivery. It is a key factor in determining the chances of delivery. During normal delivery, the cervix should be in perfect condition, which is more conducive to delivery. Therefore, generally around 38 weeks of pregnancy, expectant mothers need to check the maturity of the cervix to calculate the time of delivery.
