Does uterine septum need treatment?

For female friends, the uterus is a very critical and mysterious place. It bears the mission of nurturing the next generation. Once there is a problem with the uterus, it must be treated. So does uterine septum need treatment? Uterine septum is a type of uterine malformation that can induce pregnancy failure, miscarriage, premature birth, fetal growth retardation and other symptoms. Looking at the following points, we will know that uterine septum needs treatment?

Infertility The incidence of infertility in patients with septate uterus is 17% to 35%, and the pregnancy rate after corrective surgery for septate uterus is 48%. Some scholars also believe that uterine septate is not a factor leading to infertility, but in patients with secondary infertility, the incidence of unexplained infertility increases significantly to 40%. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that uterine septum is one of the factors affecting conception in this type of patients.

According to statistics, nearly 15% to 25% of recurrent miscarriages are caused by malformed uterus, among which septate uterus accounts for the majority. The incidence of uterine septate is high in women with recurrent pregnancy failure, especially early pregnancy loss. It has been reported that the incidence of early pregnancy miscarriage (12 weeks of gestation) in women with septate uterus is 25.5%, and the incidence of late pregnancy miscarriage is 6.2%. This suggests that uterine septum affects early embryo implantation and late development, leading to the occurrence of early or late miscarriage.

Obstetric abnormalities: Due to the influence of the mediastinum, the uterine cavity is deformed, leading to an increased incidence of late pregnancy complications, such as premature birth rates of 11% to 28%. The premature birth rate can be reduced to 6% to 9% after corrective surgery. Uterine malformation can also lead to obstetric complications such as abnormal fetal position, uterine contraction dysfunction, and retained placenta.

Ectopic pregnancy Due to the complexity of uterine malformations, ectopic pregnancy (also known as extrauterine pregnancy) can often occur in closed uterine horns, rudimentary uterine horns, cervix or vaginal diverticula. Because of their rarity, pregnancies in this unusual location are often difficult to diagnose early.

From the above results of uterine septum, we can know that this disease must receive professional treatment. It causes too much harm to women and may cause them to be unable to have children for a lifetime, leaving lifelong regrets. Therefore, after the occurrence of uterine septum, it is necessary to immediately diagnose and treat it and cure the problem of uterine septum as soon as possible.
