What causes breast pain and lumps before menstruation?

The presence of lumps in the breast before menstruation is a basic symptom of breast hyperplasia. Under normal circumstances, breast hyperplasia is caused by the unbalanced secretion of magnetic hormones in the body, which will cause corresponding stimulation to the breast tissue. Generally, the symptoms of breast hyperplasia are mainly cyclical, especially before menstruation, there will be obvious pain or distension, and the symptoms will be alleviated after menstruation.

Breast hyperplasia is a general term for a type of disease that is neither inflammatory nor tumorous, with the epithelial cells and connective tissue of the breast alveolar ducts proliferating as the basic pathological change. This disease is more common in women aged 30-50. The prevalence rate of women over 30 years old in China is 38.6-49.3%, with the peak age of 40-49 years old. The canceration rate is about 20%, and it is considered a precancerous lesion.

1. Breast pain: general or bilateral breast distension, tingling or dull pain, severe pain that cannot be touched, pain in the breasts when walking, pain mainly in the swollen breasts, which can radiate to the armpits, chest, shoulders, back, and upper limbs. Some patients may also experience nipple pain or itching. The pain fluctuates with mood and menstrual cycle, often aggravated before menstruation or when angry or depressed, and significantly relieved or disappeared after menstruation.

2. Breast lumps: single or multiple lumps on one or both breasts, usually on the upper outer part of the breast, in the form of flakes, nodules, granules or cords, with flakes being more common, with unclear boundaries, medium or slightly hard, active and without adhesion to surrounding tissues, and may be tender. The lumps vary in size, from small ones like sand grains to large ones exceeding 3-4 cm. Breast lumps increase in size before menstruation and shrink and soften after menstruation.

3. Associated symptoms: Patients often feel depressed or irritable, and may also experience dysmenorrhea, irregular menstruation, etc. A few patients may have brown or light yellow liquid leaking from their nipples.

Breast hyperplasia is the most common breast disease nowadays. The basic pathogenesis is due to endocrine disorders. Therefore, in order to avoid the occurrence of hyperplasia, we should improve the basic rules of life, especially pay attention to mental regulation, because endocrine health is closely related to mental factors to a large extent. In addition, you should maintain a proper married life.
