Why do women's breasts suddenly hurt?

Many women nowadays suffer from breast pain, which is a very common problem. However, because the symptoms are not specific, have high specificity and too many possibilities, it brings a lot of trouble to patients and doctors. Although this type of pain is somewhat related to endocrine cyclical changes and is mostly physiological, people's fear and worry about breast pain often make them upset and affect their daily life and work.

Women may experience breast pain at different stages due to physiological changes, diseases and many other reasons. Common breast pain in women can be divided into the following types.

【1】Breast tenderness during puberty. It usually occurs between the ages of 9 and 13, and is the earliest breast pain a woman experiences. This is when female breasts begin to develop. First, the nipple swells, and a round lump about the size of a pea or a bean appears in the breast tissue, with a slight feeling of distension and pain. After menarche, it disappears on its own as the breasts mature during puberty.

【2】Breast tenderness during the premenstrual period. More than half of women experience breast pain before menstruation. In mild cases, the breasts will feel swollen, hard, and tender; in severe cases, the breasts will feel unbearable pain when subjected to slight vibrations or collisions, and the original granular or nodular feeling will become more obvious. This is caused by increased estrogen levels in the body before menstruation, breast hyperplasia, and breast tissue edema. After menstruation, estrogen levels drop, physiological changes disappear, and breast pain will be relieved.

【3】Breast pain after sexual intercourse. An unharmonious sexual life can also cause breast pain or aggravate existing pain, which is related to the physiological changes of the breasts during sexual life. For women with low libido or disharmonious sex life, the congestion and swelling in their breasts will not subside easily or will subside incompletely because they cannot achieve sexual satisfaction. Continuous congestion will cause breast swelling and pain.

【4】Breast tenderness during pregnancy. For some women, around 40 days after pregnancy, the placenta and chorion secrete large amounts of estrogen and progesterone, which can cause breast hyperplasia and breast enlargement, leading to breast pain and discomfort. In severe cases, the pain may last throughout the entire pregnancy.

【5】Breast pain after childbirth. 3-7 days after giving birth, women often experience swelling, hardening and pain in their breasts. This is mainly caused by breast lymph fluid retention, venous congestion and interstitial edema, as well as obstructed mammary ducts. Generally, the pain will subside after the milk starts to flow smoothly.

Therefore, do not underestimate any pain. Every pain indicates a different age stage and cause of pain. Each cause is caused by different factors, so we must pay attention to it. Women must know how to protect themselves. Breast health is also crucial. Don't lose the big picture for the small.
