Caesarean section lochia precautions

Caesarean section lochia precautions

A woman will go through the process of pregnancy and childbirth once in her life. It sounds simple, but the process is hard. Many women encounter various problems during the confinement period after giving birth. Today, we will explain the lochia problem that every woman will encounter. What should I do if I have lochia after cesarean section? Why is this?

Many new mothers will prepare delivery bags before giving birth. Sanitary napkins are an indispensable item for new mothers who give birth naturally, because new mothers who give birth naturally will have something called lochia after giving birth. But do new mothers who choose caesarean section also need to prepare it? Will there be lochia after a caesarean section? Let’s take a look at it together below.

During pregnancy, the placenta will be attached to the inner wall of the pregnant woman's uterus. When the new mother gives birth, the placenta will be delivered along with the baby. However, when the placenta is separated from the uterus, it will cause wounds on the inner wall of the uterus. This wound will take some time to heal completely. Therefore, some blood will be discharged from the wound when the new mother is in confinement after childbirth. In addition to blood, it is also mixed with necrotic and detached decidual tissue, endometrium during pregnancy, mucus, bacteria and other substances. This vaginal discharge is the lochia that every new mother will encounter. Postpartum lochia is a sign of the recovery of the uterus. Under normal circumstances, lochia has a bloody smell but is not smelly, the amount does not exceed the menstrual volume, and the color is transparent and shiny, not dark or dirty. It will be clear after about half a month to 20 days (under normal circumstances, postpartum lochia will generally be clear in about 20-40 days, and the lochia of new mothers who have delivered by caesarean section will last longer than that of new mothers who have delivered naturally). If the amount of lochia is larger than the menstrual flow, is darker in color and has an odor, and the lochia persists for a long time without clearing up, it means that the uterus may be infected. If there is a lot of bloody lochia and uterine pain within 1-2 weeks after delivery, it may be retained placenta and a detailed examination should be carried out in time. Take appropriate measures immediately after finding the cause. . Although caesarean section and natural birth are different, you will have lochia regardless of whether you have a natural birth or a caesarean section.

Postpartum lochia changes can be divided into three stages

Stage 1: The lochia that new mothers experience 3 to 4 days after delivery is bloody lochia. The lochia at this stage is mainly composed of blood, and also contains decidual tissue and mucus. The color of the lochia becomes bright red and the amount is relatively large.

Stage 2: The lochia that new mothers experience 4 to 7 days after delivery is serous lochia. The lochia at this stage is mainly composed of cervical mucus, which also contains a small amount of blood and is pink in color.

The third stage: The lochia of a new mother 7 to 14 days after delivery is white lochia. The lochia at this stage contains a large number of white blood cells, decidual cells, and epidermal cells.
