Normal range of progesterone

Normal range of progesterone

What is the normal range of progesterone? This is a very important indicator for pregnant mothers. We all know that progesterone hormone levels are necessary for maintaining pregnancy. High concentrations of progesterone have a significant calming effect on the enlarged uterus and are very important for supporting early pregnancy. Progesterone can relax the uterine muscle fibers, which is beneficial to the development of the baby. Let’s take a look at the normal range of progesterone values.

Normal reference value of progesterone:

Three pharmacological effects

1. In the later stage of the menstrual cycle, it causes the glands in the uterine mucosa to grow, the uterus to become congested, and the endometrium to thicken, preparing for the implantation of the fertilized egg. After the fertilized egg is implanted, it produces the placenta, reduces the excitability of the pregnant uterus, inhibits its activity, and allows the fetus to grow safely.

2. Working together with estrogen, it promotes full development of the breasts in preparation for milk production.

3. It closes the cervix, reduces and thickens the mucus, and makes it difficult for sperm to penetrate. In large doses, it has a negative feedback effect on the hypothalamus, inhibiting the secretion of pituitary gonadotropin and producing an ovulation-inhibiting effect.

4. Increased: congenital adrenal hyperplasia (21β-hydroxylase deficiency, 17β-hydroxylase deficiency and 11β-hydroxylase deficiency, etc.), ovarian tumors, hydatidiform mole.

5. Promote the release of prolactin: Oral administration of 5-10g of megestrol acetate can induce lactation, while large doses of estrogen can prevent lactation.

6. Regulate endocrine together with estrogen: Normal female friends secrete 0.5~1mg of estrogen every day, 2~3mg of progesterone every day before ovulation, and 20~30mg of progesterone every day after ovulation. During pregnancy, women secrete 0.1-0.2g of estrogen every day, 0.2-0.4g of progesterone every day in the first 6 months of pregnancy, and 0.4-0.8g of progesterone every day in the last 4 months of pregnancy.

After reading the normal values of progesterone and related pathological effects, you all know the role of progesterone. Pregnant mothers must be very familiar with progesterone. Its indicators directly affect the development of the baby. If the intake is too large, it will cause irreparable damage to the baby's body in the pregnant woman. Therefore, you must be careful about the level of progesterone indicators and take timely measures.
