How to distinguish morning sickness from gastroenteritis

How to distinguish morning sickness from gastroenteritis

In daily life, vomiting often occurs due to various reasons. Eating unclean, rotten food, eating too much raw and cold food, high-calorie food, or even catching a cold can cause vomiting. Many women go to the hospital for a check-up after vomiting several times and find out that they are pregnant. It turns out that it is not gastroenteritis vomiting, but morning sickness. So how do you differentiate morning sickness from general vomiting caused by gastroenteritis?

Both morning sickness and gastroenteritis cause vomiting, but the symptoms and manifestations are completely different.

1. The symptoms are different. Morning sickness is a type of early pregnancy reaction. The occurrence of morning sickness means that you are already pregnant, so this type of vomiting will first cause amenorrhea. Vomiting is also accompanied by symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, fatigue, breast pain, sensitivity, and general weakness. The typical nausea and vomiting reaction of gastroenteritis is related to overeating and drinking in the past, eating raw and cold food, unclean and rotten food, accompanied by systemic symptoms such as loss of appetite, diarrhea, a lot of watery stools, fever and chills.

2. The duration is different. Morning sickness usually lasts at least three months, or even longer, but gastroenteritis can be easily controlled and alleviated after taking antiviral drugs, and can be cured in basically 3-5 days.

3. The diet has changed. After morning sickness occurs, people usually become selective with food. Some things that they used to love to eat will now make them vomit when they smell them. Most of the vomiting is nausea, and very few actual foods are vomited out. However, gastroenteritis vomiting does not select food, and there is a significant amount of undigested food in the feces.

4. The clinical symptoms are different. Abdominal pain is not likely to occur during morning sickness, and there is no abdominal tenderness or rebound pain during palpation. However, the abdominal pain of gastroenteritis is more prominent, and there is significant tenderness and rebound pain in the upper or lower abdomen during palpation.

In daily life, many women easily mistake vomiting caused by pregnancy as vomiting caused by gastroenteritis because of irregular diet and irregular menstrual cycle. Some women experience nausea and retching during meals or after smelling greasy food. This must be considered to be related to pregnancy, because vomiting caused by general gastroenteritis can occur at any time. Only by properly distinguishing the two types of vomiting reactions can we deal with them more effectively.
