What to do after menopause

Menstruation is one of the signs of being a woman. Many people believe that once a woman stops menstruating, it means she is truly aging, so women are very afraid of stopping menstruating. In fact, there are many situations in which menopause occurs. Some are caused by endocrine disorders, while others are caused by the body being in a sub-healthy state. Not all menopause equals menopause. Tonight I will introduce to you what women should do after menopause.

According to TCM diagnosis, amenorrhea can be divided into five types: deficiency of both Qi and blood, qi stagnation and blood stasis, yin deficiency and blood deficiency, stagnation of cold and dampness, and phlegm blocking Chong and Ren meridians.

(1) Qi and blood deficiency type: Menstruation often starts with a small amount and then stops. The patient is tired and short of breath, has a pale complexion, eats little and has loose stools, has a thin white tongue coating, and has a weak pulse. Treatment should be to replenish qi and blood. The prescription is Shiquan Dabu Decoction (ginseng, white atractylodes, poria, licorice, rehmannia, angelica, white peony, chuanxiong, huangmao, cinnamon) with modifications.

(2) Qi stagnation and blood stasis type: Symptoms include dark purple complexion, distension and pain in the chest and flanks, heaviness in the lower abdomen, purple spots on the tongue, and a deep and wiry pulse. The treatment should be based on regulating Qi, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. The prescription uses lower abdomen stasis-removing field (Danggui, Chuanxiong, Cinnamon, Yuanhu, Notopterygium, Pollen, Fennel, Paojiang, Myrrh), and add Qi-regulating and blood-activating drugs such as costusroot, Cyperus rotundus, peach kernel, safflower as appropriate. (3) Yin deficiency and blood deficiency type: Symptoms include fever in the five parts of the body, flushed cheeks, restlessness and insomnia, dry lips and tongue, dizziness and tinnitus, sore waist and weak knees, and a thready and weak pulse. The treatment should be to nourish yin and blood. The prescription is Daying Decoction (rehmannia, angelica, licorice, eucommia, Achyranthes bidentata, cinnamon, tung oil cake), with the addition of yin-nourishing and fever-reducing drugs such as Ligustrum lucidum, white peony root, Artemisia annua, and turtle shell.

(4) Cold-dampness stagnation type: Symptoms include bluish face and cold abdomen, chest tightness and distension, abdominal pain during bowel movements, cold and damp leucorrhea, white and moist tongue coating, and a deep and slow pulse. Treatment should be to warm the meridians and dispel cold, and to remove dampness and blood stasis. The prescription for warming the meridians is Erchen Decoction (Guizhi, Niuxi, Huoshu, Danggui, Chuanxiong, Moutan Cortex, White Peony Root, Ginseng, Licorice, Citrus aurantium, Shida, and Pinellia) with modifications. (5) Phlegm blocking Chong and Ren meridians: Symptoms include obesity, fatigue, shortness of breath, chest tightness and frequent drowsiness, a greasy white tongue coating, and a thin and smooth pulse. To treat directly, eliminate phlegm, dredge the meridians, and regulate the Chong and Ren meridians, you can use boiled Pinellia, Rhizoma Rhizoma Smilacis Glabrae, Rhizoma Crotons, Scabra, Peach Kernel, Safflower, Angelica, Cyperus rotundus, and Tangerine Peel to treat.

It is caused by liver and kidney deficiency, qi and blood deficiency, and blood circulation disorder. There are distinctions between deficiency and excess. Deficiency is mostly due to insufficient Qi and blood and kidney deficiency, while excess is mostly due to cold stagnation, Qi stagnation and blood stasis. In terms of treatment, if it is due to insufficient qi and blood, qi and blood should be replenished; if it is due to kidney deficiency, the lower abdomen needs to be replenished; if it is due to cold stagnation, the meridians need to be warmed and the cold needs to be dispelled; if it is due to qi stagnation, the liver needs to be soothed and qi needs to be regulated; if it is due to blood stasis, blood circulation needs to be activated and blood stasis needs to be removed. Differentiated treatment and feeding can be implemented according to different symptoms. The following dietary treatments are available:

(1) Peach kernel and beef blood soup. 10-12 grams of peach kernels, 200 grams of fresh cow blood (coagulated blood), and a little salt. Cut the ox blood into pieces, add peach kernels and appropriate amount of water to make soup, and add a little salt to season when eating. It has the effects of removing blood stasis, promoting blood circulation, regulating blood circulation, dredge menstruation, and beautifying the skin. Suitable for amenorrhea, dry blood, constipation and other symptoms.

(2) Fungus and walnut candy. 120 grams of black fungus, 120 grams of walnut kernels, 200 grams of brown sugar, and appropriate amount of rice wine. Grind the fungus and walnuts into powder, add brown sugar and mix evenly, then seal the mixture in a porcelain jar. Take 30 grams each time, twice a day until menstruation comes. It has the effects of nourishing the liver and kidneys, replenishing qi and blood, and nourishing Chong and Ren. Suitable for amenorrhea due to uterine hypoplasia.

(3) Black bean and double red soup. 50g-100g of black beans, 5g of safflower, 30g-50g of brown sugar. Put the first two ingredients in a stewing pot, add appropriate amount of water, stew until the black beans are cooked through, remove the safflower, add brown sugar and mix well.
