Uterine artery embolization surgery

Uterine artery embolization surgery

Many people will suffer from the sequelae of childbirth, such as uterine fibroids and uterine artery embolization. In the past, there were some traditional medical treatments. The previous traditional methods also had some drawbacks. I wonder if you have heard of a new treatment method called uterine artery embolization surgery. This is a new treatment method. Let me briefly introduce it.

There are three types of embolization methods for vascular interventional treatment in obstetrics and gynecology:

(1) Uterine artery embolization (UAE);

(2) internal iliac artery embolization (IIAE);

(3) Ovarian artery embolization (DAE), the more common is UAE. All patients underwent TUAE 3 to 7 days after the end of menstruation. Percutaneous right femoral artery puncture was used to perform bilateral uterine artery catheterization. The COBRA tip was inserted into the bilateral internal iliac arteries one after another. Angiography confirmed that it was a fibroid. The blood supplying artery was then injected with superiodized oil for embolization through the catheter.

Uterine artery embolization for the treatment of uterine fibroids is a vascular interventional procedure. Interventional surgery is a directional surgery on the organs and tissues where the lesions are located, using modern medical imaging-guided technologies such as ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), X-rays, and laparoscopy, in order to achieve the purpose of diagnosis and treatment. At present, this method has become an indispensable part of comprehensive treatment. Due to its advantages such as minimal trauma, accurate positioning, safety, effectiveness and few complications, it has developed rapidly in the past 20 years. It is generally divided into two categories: vascular interventional surgery and non-vascular interventional surgery.

Vascular interventional surgery was founded by Seldinger in 1953. There are three types of catheterization based on the location of the catheter: subselective - inserted into the abdominal aorta; selective - inserted into the primary branches of the abdominal aorta; and superselective - inserted into the secondary or smaller branches of the abdominal aorta. The operation is minimally invasive, easy to operate, and involves accurate intervention sites, thus giving some patients who are not candidates for surgery a chance to receive treatment and simplifying surgical procedures. It mainly includes: angiography, vascular embolization, angioplasty perfusion chemotherapy, drainage and biopsy, etc.

Uterine artery embolization therapy began in 1920, initially used for postpartum hemostasis and later for pelvic infusion chemotherapy for gynecological malignancies. It was used in 1994 for preparation before surgery for uterine fibroids. In 1995, Ravina et al. in the UK used it for the first time in clinical practice to replace surgical treatment of uterine fibroids and achieved successful results. Since then, the technology of transcatheter uterine artery emboligation (TUAE) surgery for the treatment of uterine fibroids has made great progress.

The treatment methods of uterine artery embolization surgery have been introduced above. It is very important to choose the correct treatment method, so everyone must consult a doctor during treatment. Do not blindly seek treatment. Not only will it not bring good treatment results, but the condition will continue to worsen. I hope everyone can be healthy.
