What are the symptoms of vaginal trichomoniasis?

Vaginal trichomoniasis is actually what we often call Trichomonas vaginitis, which is also a common gynecological disease. We all know that the occurrence of this disease has a great impact and harm on women. Therefore, in life, women should pay attention to the understanding of these diseases, so as to effectively help themselves treat and prevent them, and reduce the impact and various harms they cause.

Vaginal trichomoniasis (trichomoniasis vaginitis) is a common gynecological disease caused by Trichomonas vaginalis. Trichomonas is transmitted directly to the female through sexual intercourse, and the same type of Trichomonas can be found in the male's urethral and prostate secretions. Trichomonas not only parasitizes in the vagina, but also in the lower part of the urinary tract (urethra and paraurethral glands) and the cervical canal. Clinically, Trichomonas carriers may not show any symptoms. Trichomonas parasitic in the vagina can consume glycogen in the vagina, change the acidity and alkalinity of the vagina, destroy the defense mechanism, and easily cause secondary infection.

Clinical manifestations

The incubation period is 4 to 7 days. After infection, women will experience persistent vaginitis, which may have an acute or slow onset. The clinical manifestations are increased vaginal discharge, which is foamy, foul-smelling, and yellow-green in color. Difficulty urinating, vulvar itching. The acute phase lasts for 1 week or several months, with fluctuations in severity, pain during sexual intercourse, and worsening symptoms after menstruation. Subsequently, the amount of vaginal discharge decreases, the symptoms are alleviated, and may even disappear completely. If Trichomonas vaginalis parasitizes in the urethra or bladder, it can cause Trichomonas urethritis and cystitis. Trichomonas vaginalis can devour sperm and cause infertility. Trichomonas vaginalis can also cause abnormal cell development and nuclear abnormalities, and the incidence of cancer is significantly higher than that in women without Trichomonas. Examination findings range from mild engorgement of the vaginal vault and cervix to extensive erosions, petechiae, and perianal erosions and a flushed endometrium (strawberry cervix).

The above are some of the causes of trichomoniasis and its clinical manifestations. Every woman should pay attention to her reproductive health in her life. If some abnormal conditions are found, she should pay attention and adopt scientific and effective treatment and coping methods, and stay away from unclean and unhealthy sexual behaviors.
