What is interventional treatment for adenomyosis?

All uterine diseases are closely related not only to our own physical health, but also to our offspring. Many people suffer from infertility symptoms due to uterine diseases. Of course, uterine diseases are not caused by acquired reasons but may be congenital. However, timely treatment may completely improve the possibility of recovery. What kind of treatment is interventional treatment for adenomyosis?

The interventional treatment of adenomyosis is to place a special catheter into the uterine artery through angiography, and then block the uterine artery lumen with embolic particles containing antibiotics. After embolization, the blood supply to the uterus suddenly decreases significantly, and actively proliferating cells, such as endometrial glandular cells and stromal cells, undergo massive necrosis. The inflammatory cytokines they secrete also decrease, which weakens the spasmodic contractions of the uterus and significantly relieves the pain. As the necrotic tissue is absorbed, the size of the uterine lesions gradually decreases and the amount of menstruation decreases.

As hemoglobin levels increase, anemia symptoms will also improve. Its common side effects are postoperative lower abdominal pain and fever, which are caused by the absorption of necrotic tissue and can usually be relieved by symptomatic treatment. Interventional treatment of adenomyosis is a relatively new treatment method with a small number of patients. Little is known about the mid- and long-term efficacy and complications, so it cannot yet be used as a routine method. In addition, due to the lack of understanding of the effects of interventional treatment on ovarian function and endometrial function, as well as whether the embolized uterine muscle wall will have adverse effects on future pregnancy, embolization treatment is not recommended for women who want to have children.

I believe that after my introduction, everyone has a great understanding of the interventional treatment of adenomyosis. This is a relatively new treatment method. Its biggest feature is that it is quick to take effect, has obvious treatment, and leaves relatively few sequelae. It is for this reason that it is favored by many patients.
