Which women should not have sex after surgery?

Women must abstain from sexual intercourse for a period of time during some necessary physical examinations or after undergoing certain operations, otherwise it may cause physical diseases or even endanger their lives.


1. After cervical biopsy

A cervical biopsy is often done when a person is suspected of having cervical cancer. The method of examination is to take a sesame-sized piece of cervical tissue from the uterus at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock on a watch and send it to the pathology department for biopsy. Generally, sexual intercourse is prohibited within 2 weeks after surgery. If bleeding still occurs after 2 weeks, sexual intercourse should be resumed 1 to 2 weeks after the bleeding stops.

2. After diagnostic curettage

When menstrual disorders occur or when infertility or menopausal menstrual disorders require the exclusion of endometrial cancer, a curettage is required. Sexual intercourse should be prohibited 3 days before and 1 month after the diagnostic curettage to prevent uterine infection.

3. After hysterosalpingography

When infertility requires understanding whether the fallopian tubes are blocked, hysterosalpingography is necessary. Sexual intercourse should be avoided 3 days before angiography and within 1 month after surgery to prevent adnexitis.

4. After artificial abortion

If contraceptive measures are not implemented or contraception fails, artificial abortion is required. Avoid sexual intercourse 3 days before and 1 month after an abortion to prevent pelvic inflammatory disease.

5. After surgery for severe cervical erosion

Cervical erosion can be divided into three types: mild, moderate and severe. In the treatment of severe cervical erosion, sexual intercourse should be prohibited within 2 months after surgery to avoid the shedding of the crust and excessive bleeding.

6. After cervical polyp surgery

Cervical polyps are benign tumors. During surgery, it is removed using vascular clamps. Sexual intercourse should be prohibited 3 days before surgery and 2 weeks after surgery. Otherwise, it will cause ascending infection and lead to endometritis.
