Please hold the hands of the elderly with Alzheimer's disease to give them a sense of security

Grandma Wu is an Alzheimer's patient who has been suffering from the disease for 5 years. She has a declining memory and often can't find her belongings wherever she puts them. She is irritable and sometimes can't even call out the names of her children and grandchildren. She often forgets what she just said in a flash, often feels unable to sleep at night, and says someone stole her things and she is very scared.

For elderly people like Grandma Wu, it is recommended that their family members accompany them to a regular hospital for treatment. After they receive regular treatment and return to their families, I would like to give you a few tips when family members accompany them:

1. Try to speak in a simple and easy-to-understand manner, speak slower and more gently, as if you were talking to a child, so that the elderly can understand and hear clearly.

2. No matter what kind of temper you have or what kind of urgent things you encounter, don't be impatient. You must treat it calmly, otherwise the elderly will be more anxious than you, and it may even induce violent behavior. When communicating, you must give the elderly enough time to allow them enough time to understand and respond to you.

3. When the elderly do not express themselves clearly or do not understand what you are saying, you must not show impatience or express an impatient attitude towards them, as this can easily make them nervous.

4. When you find that an elderly person has done something wrong or has not cleaned up their bowels or urination, you must be understanding and tolerant. Do not blame them or yell at them, and give them enough self-esteem.

5. When you find that an elderly person has hallucinations and cannot distinguish between day and night, you must be more understanding and give him a sense of security.

6. Other forms of communication, such as a hug, or touching the elderly's face, holding their hands, can give them a sense of security and relaxation.
