Ahhh, so annoying! Why do I always feel that hair loss is more likely in autumn and winter?

Review expert: Peng Guoqiu, deputy chief physician of the Fourth Medical Center of the General Hospital of the Chinese People's Liberation Army

Baldness, hair loss, receding hairline, each word is enough to make young people today "shudder". In autumn and winter, the already sparse hair on the top of the head seems to be even more "precarious". Why do I always feel that I lose more hair in autumn and winter? Whose fault is it that my hair is getting thinner and thinner?

Is it true that we lose more hair in autumn and winter?

Hair also has a complete life cycle. From growth to shedding, a hair goes through three stages: "growth phase", "regression phase" and "resting phase", which is the process of growth (slow growth) - aging (hair follicle atrophy, stop growing) - death (gradual shedding). After this, new hair will grow from the hair follicle.

Normally, 90% of human hair is in the growth phase, about 10% is in the resting phase, and only 1% is in the regression phase. The regression phase generally lasts about 3 months, and the hair will fall out relatively concentratedly for a period of time after the regression phase. About 50-100 hairs fall out every day, which is normal metabolism and there is no need to worry.

Similar to the "molting period" of animals, human hair also undergoes seasonal changes. Many studies have shown that the proportion of hair in the "resting period" is the highest between July and September. According to the three-month cycle of the "resting period", October to December is the time when hair sheds most, which coincides with the autumn and winter seasons.

Therefore, hair loss in autumn and winter is caused by seasonal changes in hair growth, not a pathological condition. When spring comes, the lost hair will grow back naturally.

What habits can cause hair loss?

If you pull a rubber band too hard, it will break. The same is true for our hair. If we pull it too hard for a long time, we will inevitably lose our hair. Hair loss caused by external pulling is called "traction alopecia."

In daily life, the most common situation of hair pulling is braiding and ponytailing. Curling, bunning, using too tight hairpins, combing too hard, etc. can also cause pulling. In addition, if you wear a hat too tightly and push the hair on the forehead back, it is easy to squeeze the roots of the hair, which is also a kind of pulling.

How to avoid traction alopecia? In daily care and styling, braid less and use more conditioner. Everyone loves beauty. After tossing your hair, give it a "rest period" and it will slowly return to its original state.

Can not washing your hair or using shampoo containing silicone help prevent hair loss?

In order to avoid hair loss, everyone has tried various methods, such as not washing their hair, not using shampoo containing silicone, using hair growth liquid for a long time, etc., but the hair volume has not recovered.

First of all, washing your hair does not cause hair loss. When you wash your hair, it is more likely that the hair is already falling out, and it will fall naturally once it is rubbed. There is currently no evidence that washing your hair has a direct effect on hair loss.

There is no direct link between silicone-containing shampoo and hair loss. In recent years, "silicone-free" shampoo has been favored by more and more consumers. The silicone oil added to shampoo is actually "dimethicone", which has good viscosity and ductility, can repair the hair scales on the surface of the hair, is not a harmful ingredient, and is suitable for most people. For people with sensitive scalp and thin hair, silicone-free shampoo may be more suitable.

In addition, the effects of hair growth liquid and hair growth agent sold on the market cannot be trusted. There is no drug that can cure hair loss, such as alopecia areata and androgenic alopecia, which can only be delayed and alleviated through treatment. If you find that your hair is sparse and yellow, your scalp is greasy and itchy, and your hair loss has increased significantly, remember to go to a regular hospital for treatment in time.
