[Medical Q&A] Under what circumstances is it not suitable to prepare for pregnancy?

Planner: Chinese Medical Association

Reviewer: Shang Xuejun, Chief Physician, General Hospital of Eastern Theater Command of PLA

The premise of preparing for pregnancy is that both husband and wife are physically and mentally healthy and live in a safe environment without exposure to toxic and harmful substances. However, if the following conditions exist in daily life, it is not recommended to prepare for pregnancy in the short term.

(1) Having bad habits such as smoking, drinking, staying up late for a long time, etc. (You should quit these habits for 3 months before trying to get pregnant).

(2) You have just moved into a new house or the house has been newly renovated (you should ventilate and remove formaldehyde for 6 months before planning for pregnancy).

(3) Those who have suffered major mental trauma, long-term emotional depression, or excessive fatigue (preparing for pregnancy should wait until the situation improves).

(4) Have just stopped taking birth control pills (preparation for pregnancy should be resumed after 3 months).

(5) Wearing an IUD or having it removed recently.

(6) Those who have undergone childbirth or miscarriage less than six months ago, or have just experienced an ectopic pregnancy (also known as extrauterine pregnancy) or other abdominal surgery less than six months ago (pregnancy preparation should be postponed until the body recovers).

(7) Suffering from gynecological diseases such as vaginitis, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, or diseases such as viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, hyperthyroidism, or serious liver and kidney dysfunction, congenital or acquired heart disease, or other important organ dysfunction.

(8) Exposure to toxic and harmful substances such as X-rays.

(9) Rubella vaccine has been administered within 3 months.
