A couple was diagnosed with cancer because of "excessive frugality"? How many of these bad habits caused by "saving money" do you have?

Recently, a couple in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, were both diagnosed with colorectal cancer because of their frugal eating habits. Doctors pointed out that their cancer was closely related to their long-term consumption of leftovers.

Leftovers contain high levels of nitrite , a substance that can be converted into carcinogenic nitrosamines in the human body. Long-term intake greatly increases the risk of esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, and intestinal cancer.

Today, let’s talk about those lifestyle habits that seem frugal but are actually full of risks . Check out how many of them you have!

Five major cancer risks that are “saved”

1. Don’t throw away expired or spoiled food

The older generation is often reluctant to throw away expired or spoiled food, but they don’t know that these foods may contain strong carcinogens such as aflatoxin. Aflatoxin is mainly found in moldy grains, nuts and oil crops. It is extremely toxic to the liver and long-term intake can induce liver cancer.
Therefore, when faced with expired or spoiled food, we must firmly say "no" and never lose the big picture for the small.

2. Reuse of old oil

Many people think that cooking oil is safe to eat as long as it is within its expiration date, and even collect the oil used for frying food and cook it again. However, once the cooking oil is opened, its shelf life will be greatly shortened. Cooking oil stored for a long time is prone to oxidation and rancidity, producing harmful substances; and oil that is repeatedly fried will produce more carcinogens.

Therefore, it is recommended that cooking oil be consumed as soon as possible after opening (3 months) to avoid long-term storage and repeated use.

3. Don’t turn on the range hood when cooking

In order to save electricity, some people choose not to turn on the range hood when cooking, or turn it off in advance. However, kitchen fumes contain a variety of harmful substances, such as benzopyrene and dinitrophenol. Long-term inhalation of these substances can significantly increase the risk of lung cancer. Especially non-smoking women should be more vigilant about the harm of kitchen fumes.

In addition, gas stoves also release a large amount of carcinogens when burning.

Therefore, be sure to turn on the range hood when cooking and keep the room well ventilated.

4. Trying to save effort and lack of exercise

The pace of modern life has accelerated, and many people have developed a sedentary habit. However, lack of exercise not only leads to health problems such as obesity and cardiovascular disease, but also increases the risk of various cancers such as breast cancer and colon cancer.

Doing moderate-intensity aerobic exercise 3 to 5 times a week, such as brisk walking and jogging, can enhance immunity and play a positive role in preventing cancer. Therefore, no matter how busy you are, you should take time out for physical exercise.

5. Ignore physical examinations to save time

Physical examination is one of the important means to prevent cancer. However, many people ignore the importance of physical examination because they are afraid of trouble and money. It often takes a long time for some diseases to progress to cancer (such as cervical cancer, colorectal cancer, etc.). If they can be detected and treated in the early stage, many cancers can be avoided.

Therefore, it is recommended that people over 40 years old have a comprehensive physical examination at least once a year, and add appropriate special examinations based on their own circumstances.
