Five months pregnant, lower abdomen pain

Five months pregnant, lower abdomen pain

When a woman is about five months pregnant, she often experiences abdominal pain. Many pregnant mothers don’t understand why their abdomen keeps hurting. When this happens, pregnant mothers will be very worried that there is something wrong with the baby. We should say that there are different reasons for abdominal pain at five months. Let us understand the reasons for the lower abdominal pain in five months of pregnancy.

What causes abdominal pain during 5 months of pregnancy?

Abdominal pain during mid-pregnancy

1. Physiological abdominal pain

When the blood pressure is around 4 months of pregnancy, the uterus expands and the round ligament of the uterus is stretched, and many pregnant women feel some abdominal pain. This type of pain is mostly located on one or both sides of the uterus in the lower abdomen, presenting as referred pain, dull pain or dull pain. The pain will become more obvious when walking a long distance or changing posture. Pregnant mothers don't need to worry, the symptoms can be alleviated by lying in bed and resting more.

Excessive exertion during sexual intercourse in mid-pregnancy can also cause abdominal pain in expectant mothers.

2. Physiological abdominal pain

In the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, the baby gradually grows, and the pressure in the mother's abdomen also increases. If a pregnant woman's esophageal hiatus (the hole through which the esophagus slides down to connect with the stomach) widens, she may develop a "hiatal hernia" and suffer from abdominal pain. At this time, abdominal pain is often accompanied by symptoms such as chest tightness and shortness of breath, chest pain, acid reflux in the stomach, and hiccups. The incidence of hiatal hernia during pregnancy is about 30-50%, and the symptoms are sometimes more obvious in the late pregnancy.

Therefore, pregnant mothers are advised to: eat small and frequent meals, and eat less sweet, spicy, or sticky foods; do not lie flat on the bed or too low after meals, and try to avoid lowering your head to relieve acid reflux in the stomach; maintain smooth bowel movements. If you find that you have gastric reflux symptoms, try to raise your upper body by about 20°.
