They say that summer is a life given by air conditioning

But for workers

“High-intensity eye use + working in an air-conditioned room”

Causes dry, blurry, tearful eyes

......

Beware of Dry Eye Syndrome

Why is it easy to get dry eyes when using air conditioning?

Dry eye syndrome is a common ophthalmic disease caused by insufficient tear secretion or excessive evaporation due to various reasons, resulting in tear film instability and ocular surface damage, leading to eye discomfort symptoms and visual dysfunction.

Tianjin University Aier Eye Hospital kindly reminds you that the dry air in air-conditioned rooms in summer will accelerate the evaporation of tears on the surface of the eyes, causing the tear film to be unstable, thus causing dry eye symptoms. If the tears are left "dry", it may also cause a series of other problems, such as decreased vision, corneal ulcers, chronic headaches, etc.

Can green wallpaper protect your eyes?

Many friends like to change their mobile phone wallpapers and computer wallpapers to green, thinking that doing so can relax the eyes. In fact, green wallpapers are not as eye-friendly as everyone thinks! People often say that "looking at distant green can protect the eyes" mainly plays a role in "looking at the distance".

After long-term close-up use of the eyes, the overly tense ciliary muscles will contract and spasm. At this time, if you want to relieve eye fatigue, you need to look far away in time to let the ciliary muscles switch back to "relaxation mode".

So, workers, don’t be obsessed with setting your desktop to green! After using your eyes for 20 minutes at close range, walk to the window and look into the distance for a while. This is the key to protecting your eyes.

How to relieve the dryness caused by air-conditioned rooms?

1. Increase ambient humidity

You can use a humidifier to increase the indoor humidity and open the windows for ventilation regularly. Generally, ventilate every 2-3 hours, for 10-15 minutes each time.

2. Adjust the air conditioning temperature

The air conditioner temperature should not be set too low. Generally, the appropriate temperature is 25-26°C, and the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor should not exceed 8°C. Clean the air conditioner on a daily basis, otherwise the dust and dust mites in the air conditioner filter can easily cause inflammation of the eye surface and aggravate the symptoms of dry eyes.

3. Blinking exercise training

Correct blinking can maintain the stability of the tear film. You can try blinking exercises: lightly close your eyes for 2 seconds, close your eyes tightly for 2 seconds, and open your eyes for another 2 seconds, for 1 minute each time, and do it 10 times a day.

4. Control the time you spend using your eyes

Avoid staring at electronic screens for long periods of time. Rest your eyes every 20 minutes and look into the distance.

5.Appropriate heat

Hot compress can improve the function of the meibomian glands. Apply hot compress with a towel at about 40°C for 10-15 minutes 2-3 times a day.

6. Eat a healthy diet

Eat a balanced diet, drink plenty of water, avoid spicy and fried foods, and choose to eat olive seed oil, flaxseed oil, deep-sea fish, etc.

7. Get enough sleep

Try to get 7-8 hours of sleep every night, avoid staying up late, and let your eyes fully rest after a day of work. People who lack sleep will have reduced tear secretion, which will aggravate dry eyes.

8. Use artificial tears

Use preservative-free artificial tears, such as sodium hyaluronate eye drops, or eye drops that increase tear secretion as directed by your doctor to replenish eye moisture and relieve dry eye symptoms.
