This season is the peak season for herpetic stomatitis. What is herpetic stomatitis? Disease characteristics: 1. Self-limiting disease, prone to recurrence. 2. It is common in children aged 6 months to 5 years, but can also be seen in older children. 3. There may be prodromal symptoms before the appearance of oral lesions, such as fever (high fever in a few cases), irritability, headache, etc. 4. Gingivostomatitis manifests as ulcers on the gums and oral mucosa. The lesions are mainly distributed on the buccal mucosa, tongue, and gums, and can also be seen on the hard palate and pharynx. About 2/3 of the cases are accompanied by herpes around the lips and mouth. The gingival margins of the children are red, edematous, and easily bleed. Clusters of small blisters appear in the affected areas, with thin, transparent walls and red halos around them. The blisters rupture to form superficial ulcers with yellow-white membrane-like exudates on them. Seeing that the child is unwilling to eat, drink water, and is not in good spirits, I am really worried. However, when encountering this disease, you should not be too anxious. The recovery process of the disease requires very patient and careful care. The following is some practical tips for home care, hoping to help all the distressed parents: (1) Rinse your mouth with light salt water after each meal. (2) Eat light, digestible food and wait until the food has cooled down before eating. Diet therapy recommendation: Bitter melon, corn and pork ribs soup Function: Clears away heat and relieves summer heat, improves eyesight and detoxifies, and has a certain effect of replenishing qi. It can improve some symptoms of inflammation such as mouth ulcers, bad breath, etc. Method: Wash the ribs, chop them into pieces, and sprinkle a little salt to remove the fishy smell. Remove the seeds from the bitter melon, wash and cut them into thick slices, wash the corn and cut them into pieces, and wash and slice the ginger. Put the ribs at the bottom of the casserole, and put the bitter melon and corn on both sides. Add cooking wine, water, scallion segments, and ginger slices, bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer over low heat for 30 minutes. (3) Pay attention to hand hygiene. When children feel oral discomfort, they will unconsciously reach out to pick at the oral cavity. Dirty hands are more likely to carry bacteria into the ulcerated oral cavity, so it is important to wash hands frequently. (4) When saliva flows out, wipe it clean with a wet towel immediately to avoid causing other infections. (5) Apply iodine glycerin to the oral herpes areas. Note: When applying externally, rub gently and do not apply too much force. Wiping time: two hours after meals, once a day. Method: Soak a cotton swab in iodine glycerin and apply it to the oral cavity. After wiping, keep the medicine for 15 minutes before drinking or eating. (6) Psychological counseling. When children are sick, they may feel oral abnormalities and cry easily. Distracting them, such as reading picture books, playing with toys, listening to music, etc., can help relieve their negative emotions. |
