Diabetes is becoming younger, do you still think young people are tough?

Why is diabetes becoming younger?

The tendency of diabetes to become younger is related to overweight, poor eating habits, irregular work and rest schedules, mental stress, and lack of exercise.

1. Being overweight

Overweight (BMI ≥ 24 kg/m²) is an important risk factor for diabetes. A large proportion of young patients with diabetes are caused by obesity.

2. Bad eating habits

More and more young people are developing unhealthy and irregular eating habits. Long-term drinking of carbonated beverages, consumption of fried, grilled and puffed foods, long-term smoking and drinking can lead to metabolic disorders in the body and abnormal insulin metabolism, thereby causing diabetes.

3. Irregular work and rest schedule

Normally, when people sleep, their metabolism slows down and their hormone levels drop to a low level. Staying up late for a long time will increase the burden on the body, reduce immunity, lead to endocrine disorders, and increase the risk of diabetes.

4. High mental stress

Nowadays, young people who are deeply trapped in involution are facing pressure from life, study, work, emotions, etc. The occurrence and development of diabetes is related to negative emotions.

5. Lack of exercise

Lack of exercise has gradually become a global "epidemic", and many studies have shown that exercise can significantly reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes "signals"

The first is polydipsia, polyphagia, polyuria and weight loss . The typical "three mores and one less" symptoms appear in severe hyperglycemia, which is more common in type 1 diabetes. The "three mores and one less" symptoms are more obvious when ketosis or ketoacidosis occurs.

The second is fatigue and obesity . This is more common in type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes often presents with obesity before onset. If it is not diagnosed and intervened in time, the weight will gradually decrease.

Doctors say that many young people seek medical attention only after experiencing obvious symptoms such as fatigue, lethargy, frequent hunger, repeated hypoglycemia, and abnormal urination and drinking . However, at this time, it is very likely that their blood sugar has been damaged or they have become diabetic. Therefore, self-examination, self-testing, and self-monitoring of blood sugar , and timely detection of the physical "signals" of prediabetes are the primary key to preventing diabetes at a young age.

A healthy diet is key

Various food intake recommendations:

1. Whole grain foods help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes

①Millet, corn, whole wheat flour, etc.

② Daily intake for adults: 48 to 80 grams

③ People at high risk of diabetes should consume 85 to 270 grams per day

2. Eat both vegetables and fruits. Drinking juice cannot replace eating fruits.

①Eat more green vegetables, such as spinach and lettuce

② Eating a fixed amount (200-350g) of fresh fruit every day can help reduce obesity and overweight

3. Avoid sugary drinks

Drinking one additional glass (250 ml) of sugary drink per day increases the risk of type 2 diabetes by 18%

4. Although meat is delicious, it must be eaten in moderation

① It is recommended to consume 40 to 75 grams of meat from livestock and poultry every day, especially livestock meat (meat and offal from pigs, sheep, cattle, etc.). Do not consume too much

② You can use white meat (such as fish and chicken) instead of livestock meat

5. Less oil, less salt and less sugar, keep it in mind

① It is recommended that the daily salt intake should not exceed 6 grams

②Reduce the amount of cooking oil and animal fat

③ Eat less fried food, cakes, ham and other processed meat products

6. Don’t overeat

① Overweight and obese people should reduce their daily calorie intake by at least 400-500 kcal

② Eat at regular times and in fixed amounts, and don’t eat too much at each meal

You must pay attention to your health, monitor your blood sugar on time, have regular checkups, take medication as prescribed by your doctor, and keep exercising so that you can have a healthy body.

It is the basic guarantee for a happy life.
