If a child takes antipyretic medicine and then vomits, does he need to take it back?

Respiratory diseases are prevalent recently, and parents have tried every trick to get their children to take medicine. After finally getting their children to take the medicine, they vomit. Should they give them the medicine again?

Generally speaking, we need to make comprehensive considerations based on the amount of medication vomited, the time of intake, the child’s current condition, etc.

If vomiting occurs within 15 minutes after taking the medicine, and the vomitus is a complete capsule, tablet or whole liquid, then the original dose should be taken after the child's nausea and vomiting symptoms are relieved; if the vomitus is not a complete medicine, the judgment needs to be made based on factors such as the amount of vomitus, the type of medicine, and the food the child eats.

If you take antipyretic drugs for more than 15 minutes, you need to consider the dangers of taking an overdose of the drug. It is generally not recommended to take additional doses.

When a child vomits after taking antipyretics, parents should clean up the vomit in time to prevent the child from aspirating, and record the time and amount of medication taken by the child as accurately as possible, as well as the time and amount of vomiting. It is not recommended to give children additional medication or switch to another antipyretic medication without consulting a pharmacist or doctor, because an overdose caused by additional medication may bring greater risks.
