As the pace of life accelerates, young people's diet is dominated by fast food, fried food, and barbecue, which leads to the younger and younger age of onset of some gastrointestinal diseases. Gastrointestinal examination is currently the simplest, safest and most effective way to detect digestive tract lesions, but most people may not know much about it. Today, let us decipher the painless gastroscopy.

  1. What is painless gastroenteroscopy?

Gastroenteroscopy refers to gastroscope and colonoscope. They are both soft tubes with high-definition cameras that can observe the inner wall of the digestive tract, take biopsies, check benign and malignant lesions, and remove polyps. Gastroscopes are inserted from the mouth or nose, and colonoscopes are inserted from the anus. Painless gastroenteroscopy, as the name suggests, means that the patient is unconscious and painless during the entire operation. The anesthesiologist uses sedatives and analgesics to make the patient lose consciousness and pain for a short time, and put the patient in a state without any pain or anesthesia. At the same time, the patient can wake up quickly after the operation.

2. Suitable population for painless gastroenteroscopy

Applicable population: 1. Normal people over 40 years old can undergo routine gastrointestinal endoscopy examination. 2. If there is a family history of gastrointestinal polyps and tumors, a gastrointestinal examination should be performed in time. 3. Frequent upper abdominal discomfort, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, acid reflux, heartburn, belching, etc. 4. Long-term chronic diarrhea, changes in bowel movement, tarry, dark red stool, blood in stool, etc. 5. If there is clear gastrointestinal bleeding and unexplained anemia, a gastrointestinal examination should be performed in time.

  1. Preoperative preparation for painless gastroenteroscopy

1. Dietary requirements

1. Stop taking aspirin or other blood-activating drugs one week before the examination, otherwise it is not suitable for pathological examination.

2. Do not eat or drink anything after 12:00 a.m. on the day of gastroscopy.

3. Do not eat (1) high-fiber foods, such as leeks, kelp, fungus, and celery. (2) foods with seeds, such as tomatoes, passion fruit, dragon fruit, and kiwi fruit.

4. Eat easily digestible food without residue the day before the examination: such as porridge, noodles, etc. 5. Patients with diabetes should stop taking hypoglycemic drugs or insulin on the day of the examination to avoid hypoglycemia.

6. Perform relevant laboratory tests before painless gastrointestinal endoscopy, such as blood cell analysis, coagulation test, and electrocardiogram.

(II) Preparation method: Add two boxes of compound polyethylene glycol electrolyte powder into 2000 ml of warm water and stir until completely dissolved.

How to take medicine for patients who are examined in the morning:

It is recommended not to eat dinner the day before the examination, start taking the medicine at 4 am, and drink all the above 2000 ml of water within 2 hours. After taking the medicine, fasting begins. You can walk quickly in the room and massage your abdomen clockwise. You can drink more warm water within your tolerance, but no water is allowed 4 hours before the examination.

Check the patient's medication regimen in the afternoon:

Do not eat breakfast on the day of the examination. Start taking the medicine at 9 am and drink all the 2000 ml of water within 2 hours. When you start fasting, you can walk around quickly in the room and massage your abdomen clockwise. You can drink more warm water within your tolerance, but you must not drink water 4 hours before the examination.

(III) Standards for intestinal preparation: The stool is colorless and watery, with no solid stool or fecal residue.

4. Postoperative precautions for painless gastroenteroscopy

It is not advisable to drive or ride a bicycle within 24 hours after the painless gastroenteroscopy. Avoid strenuous exercise and high-altitude work after the operation. You should rest in bed and eat semi-liquid food 2 hours after the operation. The temperature of the food should not be too high to avoid further damage to the mucosa.

Finally, let us take care of our stomach and intestines and protect our health.
