Today, I will show you how to identify and prevent dengue fever.

Get it all at once!

The history of dengue fever

What is dengue fever?

Dengue fever is an acute infectious disease caused by dengue virus and transmitted through the bites of Aedes mosquitoes, with fever, rash and body pain as the main symptoms.

It is mainly prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions, with the most severe outbreaks in Southeast Asia, the Western Pacific, and the Americas. Most cases in my country occurred between May and November. There are two types of epidemics: endemic and imported. In my country, the main type is imported, with most cases caused by overseas travel, labor export, official business trips abroad, and commercial activities.

How dengue fever is transmitted

The main vectors of dengue fever are Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. Only Aedes albopictus is distributed in Zhejiang Province. The virus is transmitted to humans through mosquito bites. Mosquitoes usually acquire the virus when sucking the blood of infected people. Infected mosquitoes can spread the virus throughout their lives, and a few can also pass the virus to their offspring through eggs.

Dengue fever incubation period

The incubation period of dengue fever is generally 3 to 14 days, and most cases are 5 to 8 days. Patients and latently infected people are the main sources of infection. Patients are contagious from 1 day before to 5 days after the onset of the disease. Some people are latently infected, but the virus exists in the blood after being infected with dengue virus but they do not develop the disease. However, they can still transmit the virus to other people through Aedes mosquitoes.

What are the main symptoms of dengue fever?

If you are bitten by a mosquito, be alert if you experience the following symptoms:

Sudden high fever: The body temperature rises to 39℃~40℃ within one or two days, and the temperature often persists for a week;

"Body pain": headache, eye socket pain, muscle joint and bone pain, and general fatigue;

"Redness": The skin on the face, neck, chest and limbs becomes red, seemingly "drunk", and there may even be conjunctival congestion, superficial lymph node enlargement, unexplained bleeding in the gums, etc.

Rash: Mainly measles-like and hemorrhagic rashes, not protruding above the skin.

Is there a vaccine to prevent dengue fever?

Or is there any specific medicine that can treat it?

There is currently no vaccine to prevent dengue fever. There is no specific treatment for dengue fever, only symptomatic treatment. Therefore, the simplest way is to avoid mosquito bites and seek medical attention in time when the disease occurs.

The most effective measure to prevent dengue fever is

Anti-mosquito and mosquito-killing!!!

Tips for preventing and killing mosquitoes

Eliminate breeding grounds

☛ Turn over: Pour out the accumulated water in small containers such as jars, cans, basins, jars, bottles, etc., and place them with the bottom facing up to keep them dry.

☛ Fill: Use soil and sand to fill various pits, depressions, ditches and other holes that are prone to water accumulation.

☛ Dredging: dredging open drains, sewers, ditches, rivers, etc.

☛ Medicine: For stagnant water that cannot be cleared, such as rainwater wells, long-lasting mosquito larvae killers should be used.

☛ Cleanliness: Keep your home and surrounding environment clean and tidy, and remove all kinds of dead corners and garbage.

☛ Cover: Household water tanks or water cisterns should be covered; tires piled outdoors should be covered to prevent rain, and discarded tires outdoors can be punctured to remove accumulated water.

☛ Change: Reduce the number of aquatic plants grown at home, and completely change the water in the containers where plants are grown every 3-5 days; mosquito fish can be raised in the water bodies at home and around the landscape.

Personal protection

☛ Isolation: Wear light-colored long-sleeved clothes and long pants when going out.

☛ Elimination: Use mosquito coils, electronic mosquito repellents, electric mosquito swatters, mosquito-proof lamps and other equipment in a timely manner. You can also use insecticide sprays to eliminate mosquitoes in the room.

☛ Avoid: Avoid staying in the shade of trees, grass, pavilions, garbage stations, etc. during the peak mosquito activity period (7-9 am and 4-6 pm).

☛ Repel: Apply mosquito repellent to exposed skin.

☛ Installation: Families can install mosquito nets, screen doors, screen windows, etc.

Special reminder

The symptoms of dengue fever are similar to the early symptoms of influenza, colds, etc. Summer vacation is approaching. If patients have been bitten by mosquitoes recently or have a history of traveling to Southeast Asia, South America, Africa, etc., they should seek medical attention in time.
