Reminder

June is the peak season for food poisoning and illness

Citizens, please be careful

01

Stay away from wild mushrooms

May to October is the peak period for poisonous mushroom poisoning, especially June to July, which is the growing season for many liver-damaging toxic mushrooms such as Amanita. There are many kinds of wild mushrooms, and some poisonous and non-toxic varieties look similar, so even professionals find it difficult to distinguish them based on appearance alone.

The best way to prevent poisoning from poisonous mushrooms is not to pick, eat, or buy or sell wild mushrooms, and not to gamble with your life and health. For areas where people have the habit of picking and eating wild mushrooms, it is recommended to strengthen publicity and issue warnings of poisonous mushroom poisoning in a timely manner.

If you feel unwell after eating wild mushrooms, please seek medical attention immediately and keep the samples. Be especially alert if you feel unwell nearly 6 hours or more after eating, so as to avoid delaying treatment and causing death due to failure to detect liver and kidney damage in time.

02

Reheat cold and stewed dishes before eating

As the weather gets hotter in June, salted duck eggs, preserved eggs, and various stewed and cold dishes begin to appear on the table, bringing a touch of coolness. However, these foods are also easily contaminated by pathogenic bacteria such as salmonella.

Salmonella is a common food-borne pathogen that can survive in the refrigerator for several months and can multiply in large quantities above 20°C. Salmonella is not resistant to high temperatures and can be killed by heating at 70°C for 15 minutes.

Therefore, it is recommended to do the following 5 things on a daily basis:

1. When storing food in the refrigerator, wrap it in fresh-keeping bags, plastic wrap, sealed boxes, etc. and store it separately;

2. Store cooked food, fruits and vegetables separately from raw meat to avoid cross contamination;

3. Return cold dishes and stewed dishes to the pan before eating to ensure they are cooked thoroughly;

4. Wash raw fruits and vegetables thoroughly with running water;

5. Egg products should be eaten immediately after preparation. Cracked eggs should not be stored to avoid bacterial proliferation.

03

Don't eat zongzi on an empty stomach in the morning

The Dragon Boat Festival is coming, and different flavors of zongzi have appeared in the market. Zongzi are mostly made of glutinous rice, which has the characteristics of high energy and difficult to digest. Therefore, while enjoying the delicious food, you should also pay attention to eating healthily. Suggestions:

1. Eat in moderation and limit the number of rice dumplings to less than 3 per day. Especially the elderly, children and other people with weak spleen and stomach should pay attention to controlling the amount of food they eat.

2. Try to choose rice dumplings stuffed with whole grains. This type of rice dumpling is rich in fiber, which can make up for the deficiency of glutinous rice and reduce the burden on the stomach and intestines.

3. Do not eat rice dumplings on an empty stomach in the morning to avoid stimulating excessive secretion of gastric acid, which may cause uncomfortable symptoms such as acid reflux and heartburn.

4. Patients with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and gastrointestinal diseases should eat less or no rice dumplings to avoid aggravating their condition.

5. Adjust your three meals. Zongzi is high in sugar and fat. Therefore, when eating zongzi, you should appropriately reduce the intake of carbohydrates and fat in the three meals to avoid excessive total energy and fat intake in a day. At the same time, you can pair it with fresh vegetables rich in dietary fiber to promote digestion and balance blood sugar.
