Is eye discomfort definitely caused by COVID-19 infection? If you experience these discomforts, you must pay attention~

Many people have found that after being infected with the new coronavirus, they not only experience "crying eyes", but also many other eye problems. If your eyes are uncomfortable, how can you correctly judge and treat it?

Possible eye problems and symptoms of COVID-19 infection

1. Retinitis (common)

Symptom 1: Decreased vision: The main manifestation is blurred vision and dark and pale colors. This is because the retina is an important structure for visual perception and is responsible for converting visual information into electrical signals and transmitting them to the visual center. Once inflammation occurs in the retina, it will inevitably lead to impaired vision.

Symptom 2: Distortion and deformation of vision: Retinitis causes edema in the retina, which forms wrinkles. The image projected on the retina will be deformed and distorted. The more severe the retinal edema, the more obvious the deformation.

Symptom 3: Visual field loss: Usually occurs in areas where retinal inflammation is more serious. The local retina loses the ability to sense light stimulation, resulting in local visual field loss.

2. Viral conjunctivitis (partial)

Symptoms: Congestion and edema of the ocular mucosa, resulting in local lymphatic circulation disorders, accompanied by eye pain, sometimes stinging, sometimes swelling. In some cases where the inflammation is more severe, it can lead to blockage of the chamber angle and poor drainage of aqueous humor. Some people also have symptoms of increased intraocular pressure, and the eyeballs may also experience swelling, pain, and tearing.

3. Other inflammations (minority)

Other inflammatory reactive lesions, such as superficial scleritis and uveitis, manifest as red eyes, foreign body sensation, and eye pain. At the same time, it may also lead to ocular vascular lesions and optic neuritis, which manifest as a sharp decrease in vision, loss of vision to no light perception, accompanied by pain when moving the eyeball, etc.

How can you avoid eye infections?

1. Keep clean. Wash your hands frequently when going in and out, and avoid touching or rubbing your eyes frequently.

2. Stay away from crowds to avoid cross infection. If it is unavoidable, remember to wear goggles or glasses for protection.

Friendly reminder: If systemic symptoms are relieved but conjunctival congestion continues to worsen and there is a problem of decreased vision, you need to seek examination and treatment from a professional institution in time.
