IDC: The smartphone and tablet markets are expected to grow by 20% after the launch of the digital national subsidy policy in January 2025

Market research firm IDC recently published a report saying that after the launch of the national subsidy policy for mobile phones, tablets and other digital products in January, the smartphone and tablet markets are expected to grow by about 20%. The national subsidy policy will drive more significant growth in the price range of smartphones in the 2,000-6,000 yuan range, tablets in the 2,000-3,000 yuan range, and PCs in the 6,000 yuan and above price range.

Counterpoint data also showed that sales of smartphones in China reached nearly 29 million units in January, a year-on-year increase of 17.6%.

According to data released by the National Development and Reform Commission, during the Spring Festival alone (January 28 to February 4, 2025), mobile phone sales revenue increased by approximately 182% year-on-year, with sales reaching 14.1 billion yuan.

It is reported that on January 20 this year, national subsidies for digital products such as mobile phones and tablets were launched in various parts of the country.

Individual consumers who purchase three types of digital products, namely mobile phones, tablets, and smart watches (bracelets), with a single sales price not exceeding 6,000 yuan, can enjoy new purchase subsidies.

Each person can subsidize one item per category, and the subsidy ratio for each item is 15% of the final sales price after deducting all discounts in the production, circulation links and mobile operators, and the maximum subsidy per item shall not exceed RMB 500.
