In 2022, we saw many popular social media networks create similar features to compete with established and emerging social platforms. Some of these features include Reels, TikTok Now, and Twitter’s Fleets. Gizmodo calls this the TikTokification of Facebook. However, what these social media platforms fail to realize is that even if these users visit multiple platforms, they go to different platforms for different experiences.

Strict social standards

This trend stems from the last year when brands became more human. Transparency is not only a trend, but a standard for brands to act online. It is more important than ever. Not only is transparency important, but identity verification is also important. Stricter social standards come when users can pay for verification badges and destroy real accounts.

Small Business Influencer Marketing

Small businesses and creators will take over a significant presence on social media compared to big brands. While big brands tighten their budgets, we will see small businesses take over the social media influencer marketing space. Not only with their content, but also with their collaborations with branded creators.

Culturally Aware Marketing

Younger generations are bringing the world’s most important issues to the forefront on social media, especially the climate crisis. Well-known companies that use “eco-friendly” and “sustainably made” in their brand messaging will have to do more to gain the trust of Gen Z. They want brands to put people and the planet before profits. So even if your business is small, find ways to make a positive impact.

TikTok is here to stay

Video content is booming in 2022, and with the rise of video content comes a lot of uncertainty. However, in 2023, marketers are still looking to digital and social media video and retail media to grow their brands, but this time with more of a focus on TikTok.
