Counterpoint: Samsung Galaxy S24 sales increased 8% year-on-year in the first three weeks of launch

According to the latest data from Counterpoint, in the first three weeks of its launch, global sales of Samsung's Galaxy S24 series phones increased by 8% year-on-year. Demand for the S24 and S24 Ultra remained relatively stable compared to the S24 Plus, which increased by 52% year-on-year and accounted for more than 1/5 of total sales.

"The main driver for Samsung's main flagship this year is the S24 Plus. It hits the sweet spot in pricing, driving upgraders, and specs to support new users who want optimized on-device AI," said senior analyst Minsoo Kang.

The Galaxy Plus series performed strongly, equipped with a powerful 12GB DRAM, which is the minimum specification for large-language models to run well, highlighting the increasing importance of higher specifications in providing an optimized device experience, which was a key selling point during the launch of Samsung's S24 series.

From a regional perspective, pre-orders for the Galaxy S24 series were particularly popular in Western Europe, South Korea and the United States, with sales increasing by 28%, 22% and 14% respectively.

Jeff Fieldhack, director of North American research, said: "While overall global growth for the Galaxy S24 series remains in the single digits, this is already a high single-digit growth rate. In Samsung's largest market, the United States, we saw year-on-year growth of around 15%, which is quite solid, especially considering the difficult February. Considering that we are still at the beginning of the coming GenAI smartphone boom, there is still a lot of room for growth."
