IDC: Global smartphone shipments in Q1 2024 increased 7.8% year-on-year to 289.4 million units

According to recent news, Lei Jun, founder, chairman and CEO of Xiaomi, stated on his personal Weibo that Xiaomi’s global mobile phone sales in Q1 2024 increased by 33.8% year-on-year, and thanked Mi fans around the world for their support.

According to the latest report released by IDC, in the first quarter of 2024, global smartphone shipments increased by 7.8% year-on-year to 289.4 million units, achieving the third consecutive quarter of growth.

Among them, Samsung's shipments in the first quarter were 60.1 million units, with a market share of 20.8%, regaining the first place; Apple, which ranked second, performed relatively poorly, with shipments falling sharply by nearly 10%, which is in sharp contrast to the overall growth of the global smartphone market.

Xiaomi ranked third in the world, with its shipments increasing by 33.8% and its market share reaching 14.1%, only 3.2% behind Apple.

The most unexpected thing is Transsion, which ranks fourth. Its shipment growth in the first quarter reached an astonishing 84.9%, and its market share also reached 9.9%, which can be said to be a typical example of making a fortune in silence.

IDC analyst Nabila Popal said that Xiaomi is making a strong comeback from a sharp decline in the past two years, and Transsion has become a stable member of the top five through its active development in the international market.

IDC predicts that as the economy recovers, we’ll likely see the top companies expanding their share, while smaller brands struggle for positioning.
