TechInsights: Global foldable phone shipments to grow 24% year-on-year in Q2 2023

Foldable phones have really won this year. A series of research reports recently released by TechInsights pointed out that in Q2 2023, global foldable phone shipments increased by 24% year-on-year. The Asia-Pacific region accounts for nearly two-thirds of global foldable smartphone shipments. In this quarter, Samsung remained the leader in the global foldable smartphone market, but its shipments fell 37% year-on-year due to intensified competition.

Huawei, vivo, OPPO, Lenovo-Motorola, Honor, Xiaomi and Google are among the top 8.

Global and key regional market performance of foldable smartphones

Lenovo-Motorola performed well in the quarter with its latest Raz r40 series of mobile phones, with shipments increasing by 2,135% year-on-year . Vivo (300%), OPPO (153%) and Huawei (103%) all achieved triple-digit year-on-year growth in shipments of foldable screen mobile phones.

In the Asia-Pacific market, Huawei, Samsung, and vivo rank in the top three in terms of foldable screen smartphone shipments. In Central and Eastern Europe, they rank in the top three. In the Middle East and Africa, they rank in the top three in terms of foldable screen smartphone shipments: Samsung, Huawei, and Lenovo-Toro.

Previously, the China foldable screen mobile phone market report for the first half of 2023 released by research firm CINNO Research showed that Huawei is still the biggest winner.

Data shows that in the first half of 2023, the sales volume of foldable screen mobile phones in the Chinese market increased by 72% year-on-year. Although other competitors are also constantly releasing new products, Huawei still ranks first in market share in the first half of the year. In addition, Huawei also occupies half of the ultra-high-end foldable screen market with a price of more than 10,000 yuan, and has obtained a 50% market share.
