Nipple discharge causes

Nipple discharge is a common breast condition, which can be caused by a variety of reasons. For example, when the large tube system of the breast is invaded by disease or tumor, it can cause inflammation, erosion, bleeding and other symptoms, resulting in discharge. So what are the actual causes of nipple discharge? In fact, the characteristics of nipple discharge are different, and the causes of the disease are also different. The actual causes are as follows:

1. Milky discharge: The color of the discharge from this type of patient is the same as that of skim milk. It is mainly caused by the suppression of the pituitary gland and the excessive release of lactogen. Galactorrhea and hyperactive anterior pituitary syndrome can cause nipple discharge of this type of fluid. In addition, this type of fluid can also occur after taking contraceptives or due to fibrocystic fibrosis. Generally, multi-tube discharge is seen on both sides, and the main manifestation is spontaneous discharge.

2. Comedonal discharge: This condition is mostly related to mammary duct ectasia, such as congenital nipple indentation, which can cause the nipple to have lipid comedonal-like secretions with a peculiar smell and be accompanied by a burning, swelling, and itching sensation. The discharge is usually thick, mixed with multiple colors, and manifests as spontaneous discharge. This type of discharge is common in women in menopause or young women whose sex hormones are not functioning normally.

3. Water quality sampling fluid: This kind of discharge is very thin, like cold water. Its main cause is papilloma in the nipple, or cystic hyperplasia of the breast, as well as breast cancer, which can cause water quality sampling fluid to appear in the nipple.

4. Purulent fluid: The discharge is very thick, like pus, and is generally related to subacute mastitis and breast cysts after childbirth.

5. Serous fluid: This type of fluid is mostly yellowish in color and is mainly caused by papilloma in the tube under the nipple. In addition, cystic breast hyperplasia, mammary duct ectasia or breast cancer can also produce this type of fluid.

6. Hardening liquid or slurry hardening liquid: The color of hardening liquid is bright red, while the slurry hardening liquid is light pink. Generally, the former is mainly related to intraepithelial papilloma. If a patient over 50 years old has persistent nipple discharge on one side, it may be caused by intraepithelial papilloma and should be taken seriously. The stubborn slurry may be caused by diseases such as intramammary papilloma, cystic hyperplasia of the breast, and intramammary papillary carcinoma.

7. Light green discharge: The liquid is mainly light green in color. This type of nipple fluid is relatively rare and is often associated with cystic breast hyperplasia.

According to the above introduction, there are many causes of nipple discharge, and different fluids have different actual causes. Therefore, when nipple discharge occurs, patients must pay attention to observe the characteristic color of the fluid for better comprehensive identification. Generally, nipple discharge is related to various breast diseases. Therefore, when such symptoms occur, it is recommended to seek medical attention immediately so that timely symptomatic treatment can be provided to reduce the harm.
