Deloitte Digital and Snap released the "2021 Consumer AR Report", analyzing the potential of augmented reality (AR). The findings affirm AR’s role as the next frontier in mobile and digital engagement, and its ability to help brands elevate their customer experience. Currently, 67% of consumers mainly use AR at home to complete the following functions: communication (74%), games (55%), media and entertainment (52%) and shopping (41%). Consumers most often use AR to bring fun to their lives, with 65% of respondents saying they use AR for fun. As AR develops, it will revolutionize our lives and become a technological change as important to society as the web or mobile have been to society, changing the way we view and interact with the world around us. Here’s what we learned from the report:
Global spending on AR/VR is expected to grow from more than $12 billion this year to $72.8 billion in 2024. The report found that more than half of consumers said the COVID-19 pandemic has made AR digital experiences (56%) and technological innovation (59%) more important.
