Counterpoint: Apple gets 62% of global mobile phone profits

Among them, the most expensive iPhone XS Max 512GB even sold for 12,799 yuan, and the cheapest iPhone XR 64GB sold for 6,499 yuan. For Apple, pursuing higher profits is obviously more important than market share.

Recently, market research firm Counterpoint released the profit distribution of global smartphone brands in 2018. The data showed that global mobile phone profits increased by 4% year-on-year in the second quarter. Counterpoint believes that this is mainly due to Chinese mobile phone brands, whose combined profits exceeded US$2 billion for the first time, accounting for nearly one-fifth of mobile phone profits.

Counterpoint said that Chinese brands are very active in the development of flagship phones, and their prices have also entered a higher level, especially products represented by OPPO Find X, vivo NEX and Huawei P20 Pro.

Of course, Apple is still the world's most profitable smartphone brand. iPhone X helped Apple achieve a significantly higher average selling price (ASP) in the second quarter. Data shows that Apple took 62% of the profits in Q2, followed by Samsung (17%). The profit rankings of Chinese mobile phone brands are Huawei (8%), OPPO (5%), vivo (4%) and Xiaomi (3%).

It is worth mentioning that the remaining 1% of profits are divided among more than 600 mobile phone brands, which means that the vast majority of mobile phone brands are in a loss-making state.

In terms of profit growth, in the second quarter of 2018, Xiaomi (747%), Huawei (107%), vivo (24%) and OPPO (23%) were the smartphone brands with the fastest growth in mobile phone profits.
